I know that viruses are only alive in the most rudimentary sense of the word (and even this is controversial among experts) but I still can’t help but wonder what they’re going through when I put them on the speedy merry go round (centrifuge) and then subject them to high temperatures, various detergents and corrosive agents, magnets, and wash steps until only pieces of their nucleic acids remain.
