To be fair he miiiight have been a bit irritated by your nature at first. Sure, there were plenty of people that didnt talk a lot or seemed nervous when interacting with people but those usually dont just do things for him for no reason??? Actually- no one does.

Wignall realised fairly early that you werent being arrogant if you replied with a short answer or cut people off before they finished speaking to answer this is not a given trust. So yea he appreciated the nice things you did without having a problem with your shy nature.
