❝ how are your RIBS?  ❞ is it an honest question or a thinly veiled jab? it's impossible to say; perhaps the true answer is somewhere in the middle.

This years Interdarshan Championship was definitely one to be remembered, if by no one other than Kaveh himself. Truth be told, as excited ( albeit nervous ) as he was at the start of it all, he was glad that it was over. Glad that Sacchin and his ideals were no longer forced upon him, crushing his mind with the sheer weight of it. It wasn't anything he could stand by, much less want to continue the research upon, and so he was glad to be done with it. All of it.

Granted, that meant he didn't win anything from the competition other than the title of 'Champion', but all in all? He'd rather stick to his own ideals and morals rather than take anything from a man who saw nothing but horrible, awful things and hurting people in the world and sought to do nothing with it. Not with his enormous mansion who could house many, or the funds he provided to the championship that could help fund projects to help all of those hurting people. He was proud of his decision, even if it meant not bettering his own circumstances. At least he would sleep better at night, he could figure out the rest on his own as he always has.

But now that it was over, he couldn't help but be relieved, he's barely slept in the past week which was likely why he was feeling the immense amount of pain he was in now, that and --

"how are your RIBS?"

Hesitation faltered Kaveh's steps as he turned toward the other, the renowned 'Hat Gay' who had joined them during the championship. He certainly turned out to be an... interesting person, and a much more fierce competitor than Kaveh had initially thought. He really had pulled out all the stops in the last round to retrieve the diadem. It was impressive! .... If not, incredibly painful.

"Oh -" As if reminded, Kaveh lifted his hand to his side where the other had struck him dead on with an amazingly powerful blast of anemo. Despite himself, despite the tenderness of said rib injury, Kaveh laughed, "Thank you, I'll be fine, really. But, I appreciate the concern, though."

Alhaitham bit back the tut he felt in his tongue, knowing that all it would do was put Kaveh on the defensive. Drinks or otherwise, he was. . . troubled. Alhaitham was certainly one to stir the pot with one as emotionally volatile as he, it was true. This however felt a degree of insensitive even he would steer clear of.

He leaned an elbow on the table, quirking a brow. "Good that you're not dying. Just drunk." he observed, measuring his tone to maintain a casual air. He dare not give any indication of being actually concerned- nothing would make Kaveh clam up faster than unmeasured sincerity from the supposed 'egoist' in his life. So- rational, poised, clipped, keep it judicious.

His mind had been riddled with the ever growing darkness that seemed rampant throughout his mind, one thought latched to another and made their way into the darkest depths until there truly was nothing left but the horrible swirl of thoughts he found himself now. Lost and stumbling through his own consciousness, he found it hard to even deal with himself when he was like this, he could hardly imagine forcing him upon someone else. Here he was devoid of any filter he typically made sure to keep up, alas now, his words flowed endlessly like the rivers that split apart the trees deep in the rainforest.

"'m not dying," He lifted his head from the place it had previously found rest on the table, giving the other a gentle nod before bringing the chalice of wine to his lips once more. "Just not drunk ... enough," A bemused chuckle was cut short as he finished off his wine, settling the cup down on the table with a satisfied sigh.

One would think, after the sheer embarrassment he felt after occasions such as these, he would do better than to get himself into a predicament like this. But alas, when the darkness creeps up on his doorstep, he found himself uncertain what to do but sit alone in the horrible trenches of his own mind.

A shake of his head as Kaveh leaned back in his seat, his gaze going anywhere but his junior, "Besdies ... being a burden is all I seem to be good for," His words were quiet, barely a whisper, as if a small breeze were to flit through the tavern it would've taken his words away without a second thought. But alas, in the still air of the tavern, they could be heard over the quiet of the upstairs seating area, much to Kaveh's own chagrin. Even if he, himself, hoped was the only one to truly hear the words and gather their meaning - Alhaitham was smart, he saw Kaveh for what he truly was.

"The least I could do is to try not to be one when I pass." The conversation was not one Kaveh, himself, was fond of, in fact were he not drinking he would never dare to bring up such topics at all. But unfortunately several cups of incredible wine on an already empty stomach did not bode well in the game of secrets.

A burden, it seemed, was all that he was. That, however, was no secret, not to Kaveh, nor anyone else who looked at him with a close enough eye. After getting his own father killed, one just might believe that he'd do better for those around him. And archons, he tried, truly he did. But it always just seemed to never be enough, not smart enough, not good enough, not enough, never enough -

Now his father is gone, the anniversary of which was coming up too soon for Kaveh to be fully prepared for, his mother found herself a whole new life in Fontaine and here he was ... stuck in the stew of his own misfortunes.
