okay so, for those who don’t know, i played ringette growing up. it’s not the same sport as hockey, but it’s extremely close to it—the same concept, but it’s all girls/women and certain rules are different so the game is more team-oriented. i played defence for my first 4/5 years, while taking goalie training and playing that position whenever the spot was open on either my team—since everyone alternates at that age—or as a call-up for my friend’s sister’s team (she was two years older than us). towards the end if those years i was pretty much alternating with one other player as one of two official team goalies, while playing RD as a player. in my last year at my old team, my new coach basically told me that i was wasting my talent on the back end, and that wanted me as a forward. i was sad cause i loved playing D, but he said that that was why i’d make a good winger—cause my game IQ was strong enough that he didn’t have to “coach me” on where to be. thus, my winger era began ✊🏼 at my new team, i mostly played RW as a Low Forward, but when i played High i’d switch to LW. i still filled-in in net when i was needed, but it got less and less as we got older cause by then, most girls know whether they want to be full-time goalies or not. that went on for another 4/5 years, until i ended up having to stop playing in 2018 due to both a mental breakdown/burnout from school + and busted ass knee (that still gives me issues to this day) 💀 the game did save my life as a kid though, and i’ll be grateful for it and all the friends it gave me for the rest of my life <3
