Gifted journalist and filmaker Max Duncan asked me if I would like to create the music for his documentary 'Down From the Mountains'. I said yes please. The film follows three siblings from the Yi ethnic group who are left to fend for themselves in the isolated mountains of southwest China.

Dear courageous friends and kind souls,

Today is World Mental Health Day. I’ve been trying to figure out what positive message I could leave here. Many moons ago, during my final year of Art school I wrote my dissertation on the ‘Significance of Sadness’. It looked at how mental illness (particularly depression, bipolar and anxiety disorders) formed a thread through the lives of so many creative people throughout the centuries. I was looking for a reflection of myself in all those who were compelled to create in response to the heaviest of internal states. I can only speak from my own experience, but to bring the darkness out from your mind into a living, breathing space will begin a process of unchaining and self growth that will serve yourself and everyone around you again and again. The more you fear a thought or feeling, the more important it is to release it, to speak it, to draw it, to paint it, to sing it, to carve it out. So that it can examined, evaluated, nurtured, embraced, set free.

I'm very pleased to be opening the Poetry & Lyrics Festival / 6:30pm / Fri 9th June / Kings Place, London.

PJ Harvey & Don Paterson will be headlining the evening with poetry readings and conversation. It is a real honour to be playing alongside such remarkable artists who have inspired my own work.

The festival is curated by Poet in the City and brings together many exciting performances.

Dear friends, it has been a while!

I have many stories to tell and an exciting show in London to announce. But before then, myself and Emma Gatrill want to say a big thank you to everyone who bought artwork and cakes at Kings Place on 8th March. We raised a total of £75 which will be going to two charities: Womankind Worldwide & Women for Women International.
