A dear professor asked me this question once. At the time, I was excited about it. What a wonderful question. And I thought I knew my answer. . . . It is easy to say that we aren’t afraid of falling. Falling is a failure. Of course, I’m not afraid of heights, I want the climb! I want to be at the top. If I fail so what! . . . But the question changes meaning over time. What happens when you’re actually faced with incredible heights of opportunity and you are frozen at the bottom of the mountain staring up at the peaks? . . . What does it take for you to make that move? We see it. It won’t be easy. But it’s right there. It's going to challenge everything you know. . . . The hike may be difficult. But what happens when you reach the top? Will you stand up and look out at the incredible journey you just made? Or will you stand frozen in fear? . . . The peak is where the most fear appears. There is absolutely the chance you fall. You may lose your footing after you’ve come so far. . . . . But there is also a chance that being up so high leads to flight. 2019 is coming to a close, and I have to say that I never believed that I could make it this far. . . . At the end of 2018 I was heart broken and lost the truest love I had ever known. I was overwhelmed with years of childhood trauma that had finally surfaced. And I was faced with the scariest task In front of me, that I had avoided for years. Me. . . . More importantly, loving me. I had no idea who I was. I had no idea how I could ever be the version of myself I wished I could be. . . . I am a product of sexual abuse, neglect, drug addiction, eating disorders (with the help of my drug addiction), cutting, depression.... the list goes on. . . . Experiencing life where everyone who surrounded me didn’t believe that life could be better. I thought I was beyond saving. . . . But this break down was where I began to realize that.... I was pretty fucked up... functioning and surviving, but fucked up. And DEFINITELY not embracing me. I wasn’t living. I was merely surviving. In my bones I knew I was meant for so much more. . . . Sounds simple right??? . . . . Over the past year I have become more aware of how specific types of energies and environments don’t mesh well with the life I am trying to create. . . . Now that doesn’t mean I am cutting everyone out of my life that doesn’t provide exactly what I want, although that’s not wrong either, but I have learned that is imperative that I understand what energies effects me and how I respond to it. . . . Setting boundaries to protect my energy is key. I could sugar coat it and say it’s nothing personal, but it is. I know what I need to stay focused and stay productive. Sometimes there are people who come into our lives that take that away from us. And That’s one thing I really don’t need. . . . It’s not rude. It’s not meant to upset anyone. But why be in a situation where the outcome of being in an environment is depleting the very thing that makes you thrive?? . . . Don’t be afraid to walk away from things that no longer serve your greater purpose. You can still love and care for it, but be mindful in how you let energy surround you. Think about it. Have you ever slowed down enough to really ask yourself why you react the way you do in different situations??? . . Whether what you’re experiencing is either good or bad, there is an underlying reason for the reaction that follows. . . . There is power in this. The less you know your emotions the weaker you really are. . . . I think something that a lot of people don’t understand fully is that emotions are real. And they can be really fucking hard to deal with if we don’t understand why we are having the emotional response that takes place. Some people will avoid emotions their entire lives because they don’t want to experience being uncomfortable, when in reality they are avoiding what lessons that these emotions may be holding. Emotions can be paralyzing if you don’t know how to analyze them. . . . Tere is so much underneath the surface makes it hard to analyze sometimes. So it can be “dramatic” for people that completely shut them off because they aren’t taking the time to understand the lesson that we can receive when we choose to take a deeper look at our emotions. . . . So the next time you feel “crazy” or that “oh she is just being dramatic” or “I’m so happy that I’m crying” .... stop and ask yourself why? . . . What is it that I’m truly experiencing? What do these emotions tell me about myself? How much more can you understand and love yourself just by being curious?? . . . . I just finished reading the book, What a Time to be Alone by Chidera Eggerue, and this line was near the end of this lovely little book. . . . . Reading this was a beautiful reminder. Sometimes we forget that the people in our lives are brought to us so that we can learn something valuable. When the lesson is learned those people may not remain. . . . I personally have experienced great sorrow at the loss of someone leaving. It was easy to cloud my head with feelings of abandonment and unworthiness. “They left because I wasn’t good enough” . . . . But this is not the case. As humans we are allowed to out grow people in our lives. When someone leaves they are living in the deepest parts of their truth. That does not make us bad, or wrong, or broken, or unworthy!!!! . . . It means we have been given the gift to grow into something new!!!! That’s incredible!!!! . . . The next time something feels hard, someone leaves, maybe you are the one leaving... honor it. Honor the beauty in growth as you evolve into the next version of yourself.
