Last year I worked on a story about sexual assault nurse examiner, or SANE, training. ER nurses are not required to have SANE training, which teaches them how to do a rape kit and tend to the unique emotional needs of victims. Nurses can choose to take a course, pictured here. As of March 2018 out of 196,000 registered nurses in Illinois only 32 of those nurses were certified. However, in August 2018, 5 months after this story ran, Governor Rauner signed legislation that will require hospitals to train enough medical providers in how to treat sexual assault patients that when a victim arrives, a trained provider is present within 90 minutes. Hospitals will have until Jan. 1, 2022, to comply.
I also shot video for this story, which you can see here. For the Chicago Tribune.

Badass alert: ABC 7′s Evelyn Holmes practices hockey at 5:30 AM on Sundays. She’s been playing for about a year. Shot for the Chicago Tribune.
In March I took over for my friend Taylor Glascock and played campaign photographer for a day. I followed around Illinois Gubernatorial candidate JB Pritzker just days after he won the democratic primary. In the morning he had a breakfast event where he spoke at a union hall. Then we headed to the March For Our Lives where he listened to Chicago area teenagers speak about their experiences with gun violence.
Back in March I photographed some places across Chicago for the Chicago Tribune’s “Hidden Chicago” booklet. This one didn’t make it into print, but it was by far my favorite. This is Zap Props in Bridgeport, owned by Bill Rawski. It’s a huge warehouse where they have any kind of movie prop you can think of in large quantities. You’ve definitely seen movies featuring Rawski’s props. The last picture features his kids, who will be taking over Zap. I could’ve spent hours there.
I did some behind the scenes photography at a dog Halloween shoot benefitting Paws Chicago, a local dog rescue. It was SO fun and so ridiculous.
5th grader Chyla Lockhart leads students from Village Leadership Academy in a chant to protest the name of Douglas Park. The park is currently named for a slaveholder and the class would like to rename it for Frederick Douglass. Shot for the Chicago Tribune.

In January I followed a crew from Butler University for the Wall Street Journal. They were going around Evanston surprising students who were accepted to Butler with a visit from their bulldog mascot. They took photo and video of these visits and put them up on Butler’s social media. Colleges are facing lower enrollment numbers and are looking for new and exciting ways to get students interested in their schools.
Back in February I was asked to shoot some video while 18 sets of toddler twins met the easter bunny at a mall. It was very cute and very loud! Check out the video here: https://www.insideedition.com/18-sets-twin-tots-gather-massive-photo-easter-bunny-41463
