The Koha studio definitely tested me a lot this semester. I found it hard to work in a group but also mixing that with the added motion graphic which I had never had any experience in.

The group work was difficult for me as it was hard to come to a agreement with the different styles that each of the members had. Once we communicated a little better and a little more honestly we were able to merge our styles which was definitely something that helped us produce the finals. I also found it difficult as I didn’t feel as though my project was my project and couldn’t sculpt it exactly as how I wanted. In saying this I realised how much of a weakness I have to trust others and their capabilities and that is a real key to being able to work in a team. It also taught me how to critically critique and help others work without offending them and disregarding their work.

One thing I wish I could’ve gone back and changed is the lack of developments and conceptualisations we had in our posters and web. I felt as though they couldve been a lot more resolved if we had trialed in depth a wider variety of styles and possibilities along with more artist model research. 

The motion graphic was something I did come to really enjoy and will probably start to play around with in my own time over the break. I feel as though its a part of design that is 1. a little bit un touched but also 2. starting to become more and more prominent with the abilities of technology.

Today was the last class before we needed to hand in our posters for printing and everything else on Thursday. Over the weekend I was finding it hard with my standards meeting the standards of my other team members but also playing to our strengths. 

As a group of 3 we needed to provide something extra to make sure our group did enough for the extra person. As I was nearly done with the animation I looked into bus stop ads for our posters. I have recently seen personally that a lot more bus stop ads are moving, so I wanted to add something to our multi media in the form of a moving poster.  (shown below) 

This went much better than I thought it was going to, the reaction we got from the animation and our visual style was super positive, which meant we were doing what we were needing to do. 

What I learnt from this is that I really need to make sure I am showing a diversity of people my work in progress otherwise, staring at something for too long I will just make it hard to push it further with such a negative outlook. 

This week we had no lecture so went straight to the studio. I kind of preferred this today as it meant I could have more time to work on the animation with help being not far away. At this point I am finding it hard to work on the animation on my own as there is so much I don’t know 1. how to do but also 2. that its even possible. 

Today we looked at how multimedia productions work across a large range of topics, it was interesting to see how the narrative process of multi media not only works for designing for an event, but also for games and other video production too. 

It was good to see how each way effects the outcome also, which meant we could look at our own work and look at how we should lay out the narrative to best 1. target our audience, 2. engage the audience, and 3 get the audience to actually come.

I also started to look into different ways to do our animation individually too which I felt is always super useful to find inspiration as it never comes from nowhere. 

Today was the the first interim presentation. We had our mood board, story board and title sorted. It was good to see everyone else ideas also as their was such a range and I felt that our idea was something a little bit different. 

We got some good feedback to about how to actually do our animation and found that we could do the desired morphing effect on after effects. 

Today we looked more in-depth into our motion graphics and how big of a n impact the music/sound choices have on the graphic. In class we also started to develop our story board more and analyse the shots a little bit more to give the feel we wanted to omit. We also started to develop our visual mood board of colours and artist models so we could then picture the story board and mood board merging and get the feel of the graphic. 

Today we looked at storyboarding and animatics, a process I have never had to do before. We also looked at the pace a story board and how much of an impact that can have on the story itself.

Today we looked into how to tell a narrative through the motion graphic. This was really interesting to learn about and see how many different ways you can actually tell a story and a linear story isn't actually always the way to go. We also looked at how the mix of visual and type can completely change a feeling of the scene. 

This semester we are looking at Warren Maxwell and creating a multimedia campaign based on a few of Maxwells songs. 

Today we got to hear form Warren Maxwell himself which was a great bonus as we were able to see his personality. By being able to meet him and see how he is around his own music allowed me to get some inspiration for what kind of multimedia style suits his personality. 

We then went into an exercise where we searched for themes, intangible and tangible things within the story of Romeo and Juliet, this was super useful to be able to try and get a poster without the typical and usual posters for these sorts of love stories. We then tried to put a twist one these with a different style, ours was western. We took the typical signs of the western movies and twisted it with the signs and symbols of Romeo and Juliet.

I’m raising awareness to the pay gap that never closes between new fathers and mothers.

The soft, maternal imagery of poster 1 draws out the feeling (ihi) of empathy for a baby and caring for the young. Mixed with the sale tag (shown in both posters) it creates a striking juxtaposition that contrasts the positive association of ‘a sale’ with the negative attributes of having a baby for a mother’s career and pay-check. The watercolour text overlay creates a sense that something isn’t supposed to be there or is added on. Just like the pay-gap between mothers and fathers. The tag is something you wouldn’t normally see on a human figure, so makes the viewer question why something so ‘precious’ has had its value brought down (wehi).

The small centred baby in poster 2 doesn’t create any distractions, allowing the main focus to be on the baby therefore on the issue of the pay gap between mothers and non-mothers.

Reflection: 

Over the course of this paper I have found it is a lot harder to make something mean something as well as looking aesthetically nice. I struggled with this at the start a lot as I would shift between my posters looking good but not meaning much, to having meaning but really not looking too nice. 

I have also found how much more effective a poster becomes once you can nail a rhetoric/imagery/and type/layout. I think this has been a good course for developing the way I produce work and looking at how I can alter the ways of producing the same concept with different styles and different mediums.  I started to do this towards the end more, and wish I started to earlier, as I could see that something could have developed out of my last red concept.
