Co-Creation Session 1
On January 28th, 2014, SERV 311 had our first co-creation session with members from the Office of Student Involvement. Working together with we filled out a stakeholder map, swot analysis, and needs matrix. OSI caught on quickly with each assignment and revealed many insights during the meeting, such as the large number of users who come to use the services offered at the Student Center.

Social Innovation From the Inside Out
Social innovation isn’t just about providing new products and new services; it’s about changing the underlying beliefs and relationships that structure the world.
The article, "Social Innovation From the Inside Out" discusses the concept of inscaping. Inscaping is looking inward, looking past roles and seeing people as human beings with ambitions, values, fears, etc. There are two types of inscaping-- work inscaping and life inscaping. Catalytic organizations have a bigger focus on work inscaping and communal organizations are more focus on life inscaping. However an organization that will really excel at developing ideas and practices will have a good balance of both. These are called transformative organizations, and an example of one would be PLAN.
Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) is a family-led organization founded to secure the future for people with disabilities.
Their initial focus was the question, “Who will take care of our children when we are gone?” However, this later changed to "Planning for the future changes the present." PLAN emphasizes on having a good life isn’t only about what you have or what you need; it’s also about what you can give.

On the second to last day of class we are beginning to wrap up the course, having a great discussion on everyone’s insights about the profound field of service design and all the information we have taken away from this course. This was definitely one of the most valuable courses I’ve taken.
