A little gem in El Salvador is Juayua. This small town is a great base to explore the Ruta des Flores, a route with similar little towns with great murals. Other activities include visiting a coffee factory and a ‘7 waterfall tour’. On that tour you’ll visit 7 waterfalls of course but beside that you have to abseil a few of them to complete the trip. A great experience! While I was in Juayua the annual festival in the honour of Christi Negro took place and that means food stalls, fireworks and a parade. In contrast to the most other Maya sites around Central America, the ones in Copan have a lot of the hieroglyphs intact. Besides that, a normal living quarter was excavated too that gives it more of a sense of a real city. This makes this Maya site more alive than the other ones I saw. I didn’t add picture of the big pyramid structures, as they aren’t as high as the ones found in Tikal. Besides the ruins, Copán itself is worth a stop.
