Sorry that you had to read all of that but it seems that ranting is my best quality. Thank you so much though. I truly appreciate it. I just have been thinking about this for awhile. I mean, I could be the bad person and she could be the good person. I don't know anymore. But thank you once again.
Iâm sorry I havenât gotten to your messages sooner, I hope you werenât waiting long >.<
Okay so first let me start off by saying your friend is in the wrong and you are not at all. No matter what your feelings are on the subject of depression, they should never be invalidated and thatâs exactly what your friend was doing. And to be honest, it could just have been a tactic to get off the subject of them owing you that favor. The way you described the conversation, they werenât being empathetic or sympathetic and quite frankly they were being very selfish. I mean, people mention things in passing, you mentioning the favor she owes isnât being forceful or anything and they are the one who made it seem that way.Â
I understand where youâre coming from though. Thereâs this thing which is kind of like a side effect of anxiety. Itâs forgetfulness. Forgetfulness in that you, yourself, arenât doing anything wrong by being yourself. Because this person made you feel a certain way, itâs much easier to forget and convince yourself that maybe you have become meaner or different. When really thatâs not the case at all. I can only imagine what itâs like to have a sibling with depression, and I know from just that fact that thereâs no way you could talk about it in a joking manner.Â
From the things youâve told me, I know you arenât mean. I donât want to judge your friend either, because maybe it was just a big misunderstanding, but I do believe that they were wrong for handling the conversation the way that they did. And if someone, no matter who it is, makes you think of yourself as a lesser person, then thereâs a big problem. But that doesnât mean there isnât a fix. You can always talk to them about it, but I can imagine that wouldnât be the easiest if even a simple conversation with them can lead to feelings like this.
When it comes to serious topics and situations, everyone has their own way of dealing and coping and some people have defense mechanisms that donât sit well with other people. But thatâs not to make you feel like youâre wrong for doing so. Iâll give you an example. When Iâm given bad news, or I am baring bad news to someone, I have this really ironic smile on my face, itâs just a defense I do and people get upset at me for it. But you making uncomfortable topics lighter isnât a flaw, itâs just a feature of yours that sits well with others and not so well with others.Â
All in all, you should never be made to feel worse about yourself by someone else. Itâs not right, nor are they right for making you feel that way. Youâre fine the way you are, youâre you and people change so donât be afraid of that, just know that as you do change, the goodness of you carries over but just may not be understood by everyone. Please, if youâd like to talk more make sure and message us again or you can contact me directly at my personal blog here.Â
