It's funny how you spend so much of your life undoing the mess that your parents have made.
How your everyday struggles stem from what they passed down unto you.
How every molecule longs to breathe life again, but you're stuck wafting through the mud to the other side.
The beauty is that there is another side.
There is a shore in the distance, but some tumultuous waters first stand in the way.
The beauty is that you learn how to swim.
Your muscles gain strength, your lungs increase in their capacity, and suddenly there is a determination in your eyes that wasn't there before.
And even though every fiber inside of you is screaming, and you want to give up so many times, you refuse to give up until your body gives out.
It's a test of perseverance.
I was never taught how to make decisions for myself, or how to go after the things that I wanted in life.
There was one strict path to follow, and any deviation meant certain failure.
The truth is, it's all about choosing and going after it, it's really that simple. Everything is a subset of choices and actions.
You choose what you think will best suit you, and you move forward with it.
We really overcomplicate it.
Purpose is something you create, not something you have to wait to drop down for the heavens or something to be figured out.
But what we create can become purposeful, and that's the difference. WE give meaning to the things that we do.
So I'm still swimming, and still figuring things out, but I know one day I'll hit land, and thank myself for not giving up hope.
