Giving your child a good childhood doesn't guarantee the world will treat them kindly once they step outside your home. Natalists often forget that the only person who would love their child unconditionally—if said child is lucky—is themselves. They might not harm their children, but other people might. A good upbringing isn't a foolproof shield against suffering. Pain is inevitable, and sooner or later it will find them in one form or another. For that reason, no amount of good parenting can convince me that natalism is inherently good. The most anyone can hope for is that the good will outweigh the bad. Yet many natalists don't seem to think about this because they have no issue bringing children into life full of struggles.

People have spread throughout the world like leprosy, and the more they multiply, the more they become dehumanized; they think that by producing their own kind they are serving their gods; their merchants and priests approve of their fertility, the former because it enriches them, the latter because it gives them a vote of confidence.

The v popular human expectation for people to constantly (literally constantly) adapt and shapeshift to the chaotic structure of civilization be making me wonder if nature even bothers to subjects animals to the same redundant shit 😅

Like do yall think nature ever lays the pressure on soooo thick that birds be like, “Welp, even tho I already fundamentally serve a very specific purpose in nature, with very specific instincts and survival capabilities — I gotta do what it takes to get that bread and start acting like a lion. I gotta do lion things on top of the bird things I’m already obligated to, just to make end’s meet. And while that’s actually impossible, my desperation and commitment to the madness should surely set me apart from others and make it doable and lucrative. Should this fail to better cushion my day to day, it just means I must evolve again. And if (when) that doesn’t work, I’ll just become a fucking badger or a whale to sustain myself/my family. This separates the driven from the defective.”

This literally does not make sense. This is literally what work (particularly a lack of optimal modernization that benefits and secures workers) has done to us. This is what obligation to labor simply for existing has done to us. And somehow most ppl are okay w it. Somehow, most ppl will defend it even in the face of how much it blatantly and consistently deprives billions of us at a time.
