I know there are extremists in the space here (like any ideation/belief structure has), but I think I prefer to distinguish myself. Even as an antinatalist, I’ve been noticing here how ppl who lean into ig extreme versions of it can come off just as wacky as extreme natalists sometimes.
Nothing wrong with or off about perceiving existence or human reproduction as unnecessary or selfish (esp in as far as to choose to opt out of reproduction yourself for those reasons), but the wild projections I see in the tag sometimes along the lines of:
“Most, if not all men are rapists or have the potential to become one”, or, “Marriages are typically unfulfilled and inherently sexist/a legality that makes spousal rape socially acceptable”, or, “If you’re a true antinatalist you would condemn sex in general, or specifically PIV sex bc that kind of sex is the very basis of reproductive sex, which can lead to pregnancy, which leads to motherhood, which is enslavement to the patriarchy,” — are incredibly weird and projective to me. Like the projection is dialed up sooooo high on takes likes those, honestly. Like what a road map to get there, jeez👀
I’m calling this out too bc it’s also weirdly normalized here: Add to that how casually a lot of these sorts (esp on tumblr) can sometimes speak w such open disgust or disdain for their own biological reproductive organs/capabilities — and you can really start to see where it can trickle into that weird, self indulgent, man-hating, female-biology-despising tumblr quality of “feminism”. The depths of honestly both misogyny and misandry that goes into reducing antinatalism to this concept that condemns just about anyone that participates in any form of things we find or perceive as romantic as a species (including sex and commitment), easily muddies what the whole point of the philosophy is; esp if you can’t understand how that’s precisely what it does.
Just making this op to say I find it hard to agree w some of you when yall can easily make any human traditionalism, or even just the validity of gender roles, out to be intrinsically something “men systemically use to weaponize against women” — 🙄 while at the same time being p open to heckling what it means to be a biological woman itfp. This definitely isn’t everyone; but it’s prevalent enough to be noticeable. I can’t get w that.
Even if pregnancy and child birth wasn't one of the most painstaking things one could put their bodies through. Even if child rearing wasn't a lot of labour and time. Even if this whole process didn't affect one's brain this much. Even if we could reach into a mystical pocket and bring people to earth while fully formed, I would still not bring anyone to earth. Life is shit here, that's the truth. For as long as oppression systems like patriarchy and racism and capitalism exist, bringing anyone here is just cruel. Parents make victims. Everyone is a victim of something. Even those of us who have deconstructed harmful programming are still victims of those systems. We can't reverse the harm and worse, we still live under these systems. People are just bringing more people here to suffer.
also I don't think parents "these days" are uniquely terrible, I just think neglect is showing up in new ways as technology progresses. today's ipad kid would've been wandering around in a ditch alone all day and night before. parents not wanting to have to deal with children is not a new phenomenon.

anyway the thing about fanfic is that it's not essentially bad or good; it's essentially amateur. some people are absolutely out there writing award-worthy prose (some fic writers ARE award-winning writers IRL!), but that's not the point. the point is that we're all telling campfire stories. it's a community, and it's a way to spend some more time in the worlds and stories that we love.

I’m so glad women bettered the social formula with what “modernized feminism” has become; esp online. This will age well and make the world make so much more sense in the future: everyone (mostly women) just pointing the finger at the opposite sex as for what, at the root, is wrong w humanity (mostly men, apparently).
