Jungkook's pov
The diner was quiet when he walked in, as he had come before the lunch rush. Sitting in his usual booth, his hands in such tight fists on the table his knuckles had turned white, he thought back to what happened earlier.
20 mins earlier:
“You know, I let you talk to her because I don’t think you would actually hurt her, but keep your guys away from her. I don’t trust them.” Minhyuk had said to him as soon as he walked in.
“Well hello to you too. Aw does that mean you trust me now?” He had asked teasing Minhyuk before realizing, “Wait. What do you mean tho? My guys don’t talk to her.” he had answered, confused.
“No. I don’t. I just trust them less.” Minhyuk rolled his eyes before answering the second part of his comment, “One of your guys not only talked to her yesterday, he was rude and he put his hands on her.” He responded.
Jungkook felt his chest tighten. He didn’t know why but he felt it. Anger bubbled inside him.
“Oh really? You’re sure it was one of mine?”
“Yes I’m sure. You’re errand boy who came to pick up your fries.” Minhyuk said with a judgmental tone.
Jungkook would usually make some kind of joke at that but this was serious. Jimin had no right to talk to her. Since that moment, Jungkook has been sitting in the booth, poking at his food and trying to pretend like he wasn’t bothered. Why would he have been?
The more Jungkook tried to deny the anger bubbling under the surface, the more it came.
“What’s up with you?” He heard his voice before he saw him slide into the booth across from him.
“Nothing.” He said calmly.
Yoongi however, did not look convinced. He had been Jungkooks second in command, and friend, long enough to know when something was bothering the man.
“Ok” he paused, “now how about the truth?” He continued.
“I mean it. There’s nothing wrong.” Jungkook insisted.
“I mean I never said anything about something being wrong so” he trailed off.
This finally set Jungkook off. He had been sitting here for 20 minutes thinking about it and feeling angry and confused as to why he was angry.
“I said I’m fine!” He said loudly as he smacked the table and stood.
All eyes were on him at the scene. Minhyuk quickly reassured the other customers, before making his way to Jungkook.
“Ya! If you’re just going to scare away my customers then you could leave! Maybe I shouldn’t have told you, you nut case.” Minhyuk rolled his eyes again, warning him sternly before leaving again.
Yoongi, still calm as ever, Looked up at Jungkook who was still standing. He could see the anger in his eyes.
“Tell you what?” He asked.
Jungkook sighed in defeat, sitting back down. He knew that Yoongi would not let this go.
“Apparently, Jimin took it upon himself to speak to her yesterday.” He didn’t feel the need to elaborate.
“Ok and? Is he not allowed?” Said Yoongi, stealing a fry from Jungkook’s untouched plate.
He looked up at his friend, feeling frustrated that it seemed so easy to him.
“No.” He said softly.
Yoongi just stared at him unblinking. This made Jungkook nervous.
“What?” He asked.
“Are you jealous?” Yoongi asked without skipping a beat.
Jungkook suddenly felt himself blushing at the question. Jealous? What? No way. Why would he, the Jeon Jungkook, be jealous of anyone.
“Pfftt me? Jealous? Why on earth would I be jealous of that guy.” Jungkook said, sounding only half as convincing as he thought he did.
Yoongi just raised his brow and kept staring at him. Munching on more of his fries.
“I’m not!” He denied again, unsure if he was trying to convince his hyung or himself.
Yoongi didn’t say another word. He didn’t have to. He knew Jungkook already knew. He just hadn’t admitted it to himself yet.
Jungkook sat there and contemplated some more. The truth was, he hasn’t felt like this before so he couldn’t exactly place the feeling. All he knew was he didn’t want that guy anywhere near her. He didn’t want anyone near her.
After sitting there for while, Jungkook stood. He payed Minhyuk then walked out of the diner and hopped on his bike, Yoongi not far behind him.
As he drove back to where the gang usually met up, he tried to calm himself but the more he thought about it the angrier he got.
The ride felt shorter than usual and before he knew it he was climbing off his bike and removing his helmet, marching into the abandoned building they had turned into their hide away.
As he walked in, the first one he spotted was Jimin sitting on one of the couches, a beer in hand, talking with the other guys. He was suddenly full of rage.
He marched up to the smaller man and grabbed him by the front of his collar, lifting him to his feet, the beer flying who knows where.
Jimins eyes widened comically in fear but then he hid it behind a shit eating smirk that just made Jungkook angrier.
“Did you talk to her?” Jungkook asked simply. trying his best to stay calm but failing miserably.
“Who? What are you talking about?” Jimin asked, but Jungkook wasn’t stupid. He knew Jimin knew exactly what he was talking about.
He pushed him backwards until his back hit the brick wall with a loud thud, the air pushed out of his lungs.
“What did you say to her?” Jungkook all but snarled in his face.
“I just- I just asked what was so special about her that’s all.” He rolled his eyes but was clearly putting on a brave face now knowing full well that Jungkook could easily beat him to a pulp if he wanted to.
“Really? Because I heard you put your dirty little hands on her too.” Jungkook spat at him.
“I- I didn’t mean any harm, I just didn’t know what her name was,” he stuttered “so I just touched her shoulder to get her attention that’s it I swear!” He said, visibly shaking now.
Jimin knew deep down that Jungkook wouldn’t really hurt him. He just wasn’t that type of guy. He had never seen him this angry over something so small tho, and he knew not to get in his way when he was this furious.
Jungkook searched his subordinates eyes for a minute, making sure he told him the truth.
“If I EVER hear that you spoke to her without my explicit consent again..” He trailed off the threat hanging in the air before he let go, Jimin falling to ground in a huff.
“Also. Don’t ever lay your hands on her again. Got it?” He said, sounding way too calm compared to the storm actually happening in his chest.
“Yeah uhm yes. I’ll stay away from her.” Jimin said as he shook himself off and stood from the ground.
Although he confronted the issue, Jungkook was still not satisfied. He still felt the anger and he didn’t want to do something stupid, which he felt he would if he continued looking at Jimin’s face. So he left. He got on his bike, with no destination in mind, and let himself be carried by the wind.
By the time he was able to calm down, Jungkook had driven around Seoul for several hours. All he wanted now, was to see her. Why? The same question hadn’t left his mind since he met her. Why did he actually care?
Today was not one of his scheduled patrol days but he found himself in her part of town anyways. Would it be too weird if he showed up at her house? No, one of his mens had crossed the line and it was his responsibility to fix it. Yeah. That’s exactly why he was here. No other reason.
He had parked his bike and was now strolling down the street lost in thought. One second he would turn around thinking it was too weird, the next he would turn back around telling himself it wasn’t. He probably looked crazy to anyone looking but he didn’t care.
As he kept this up for at least a solid 10 minutes, he walked by the small park that had always been there but that he never really took a notice to and suddenly he wondered how on earth he could have missed it as right there, in one of the swings, she sat, swinging back and forth slowly with a book in her hands.
He felt the storm settle inside of him as he laid his eyes on her. That feeling suddenly changed to something else. Something.. heavier.
He started walking towards the swing, feeling nervous for whatever reason. As his feet carried him towards her, he stepped on a twig, the wood snapping under his heavy boots. Her head snapped up, unnaturally fast, scanning the area before her eyes landed on him.
“Are you stalking me?” She asked, her eyebrow lifted.
“Uhm no? Why would I?” He answered, his hand reaching up to rub the back of his neck feeling like he had been caught for some reason.
“Then what are you doing here?” She asked, seeming incredibly guarded.
“I just-“ he stuttered for a moment before taking a breath and making his way over to the swing next to her and taking a seat. “I heard one of my guys said something rude to you and put his hand on you. I wanted to apologize. Running into you here was just a coincidence tho.” He half lied.
It was true that running into her at the park wasn’t planned but he had come to see her to apologize.
She lifted her brow up again, still guarded.
“Why would you apologize to me for what someone else said? Why do you even care?” She asked.
He looked down at his feet as he kicked off and swung a little, matching her. The truth was he didn’t know and he didn’t know what to tell her. He just wanted to and felt like he had to. Instead he said;
“Well I mean I can’t let them ruin my rep. Also, like I said, you’re friends with Minhyuk so” he trailed off.
“Your rep?” She laughed at that answer.
“What’s so funny?” He blushed, suddenly feeling self conscious.
She stopped and looked at him like she was analyzing him which just made him blush deeper.
“You wanna know what I think?” She deadpanned.
“What?” He asked.
“I think your precious rep” she lifted her hands to make air quotes “was already ruined a long time ago.”
He stays silent at that. What is she talking about? They had just met, what would she know about his rep? His mind raced with all the possibilities of how she meant those words. Then she continued.
“I could be wrong but I don’t think you’re actually the big bad guy that everyone says you are.” She said softly, finally closing her book and really looking at him.
He looked back at her, unsure what to say for a moment. Memories of his past seemed to brew behind his dark eyes.
“You have no idea what you’re saying.” He said, his eyes suddenly less calm and looking more like a defensive glare.
She looked deep into his eyes, feeling like she was looking to close, he turned his head back to his feet.
“Really? Maybe I am wrong. I just don’t think someone who rescues a girl he just met and drives her home, then also feels the need to apologize for other peoples slightly rude behaviour could be all that bad.” She said casually, shrugging her shoulders.
He couldn’t reply to that. So they just sat there, side by side, the only sound being the creak of the rusted swings and the wind blowing through the trees, as he pondered what she had just said to him.
