Over the weekend, we had the opportunity to work with Afterhouse Detroit on building a semi-subterranean passive geothermal greenhouse at Burnside Farm. Their award-winning design utilizes the existing foundation from a demoed house as the base of the greenhouse, with walls and a roof strategically twisted to face south in order to attain maximum sunlight. Once it's finished, Burnside Farm will have a space to grow plants not typically associated with Michigan like avocado, fig, olive and citrus trees. 

We had an awesome time contributing what help we could offer, learning a lot and making some new friends. We plan to continue building with the team every Sunday that we are available. And, we hope to build a subterranean greenhouse on our own land someday, or even collaborate with Afterhouse on one in the future.
