My diary

Jiro's normal average family. 

The bar is soooooooooo low but i appreciate that the mom and sisters feel like real people with their own lives opposed to being "mom character" "sister character" where they are just roles to be filled in Jiro's story. 

I like that they dont really care about baseball or Jiros talent. His mom just sees him as her son and his sisters just see him as their little brother. Sometimes i see people talking about how they should be more into baseball but he would hate that i think. At least at home, there are only little effects of his enormous talent. 

I also think its cute that they are living rooms kids (do their activities in the living room instead of their bedrooms). At least they were. Jiro is more closed off so i dont know about now.

Aya mama

Working mama. Works somewhere that there is a night shift. Im guessing either a nurse or taking care of the elderly. 4 kids. 2 older and 2 younger. She cares about her kids but she is busy so she is just not there a lot. I feel like her experience as a mother makes her be more hands off. You cant really fix your kids problems for them after a certain age. All you can do is trust them and be there if things get too much to handle.

And in her eyes jiro is a pretty typical adolescent. He has bad attitude but he is still a good kid who eats his food and does his chores. Especially if she had experience with a real delinquent (mika), compared to that jiro is still cute. But i think her hands off approach and her being busy and also jiro being a too considerate kid, these mixing together can lead to her missing just how much distress jiro is in sometimes. But also even if she knew what could she really do..

Aya papa

Out working. Lives somewhere else and comes to visit every now and then? Never shows up in the manga actually. Seems to have a goodish relationship with mama? She tries to encourage jiro to interact with him. So thats at least something... Other than that we know nothing. Not a big part of the kids lives.

Mika

Oldest sister. 14 years older than jiro. So like 26~27. Works as a nurse in a beauty clinic? Cool girl. If she was in middle school when the younger ones were born.. and that was the time of her rebellious phase.. mama has been through a lot. But also it makes sense that she would act out during this time. Im guessing that she wasnt the kind of eldest sister that was like a second mother. Or she was for a while and starting acting out in like high school? Which i think is a good thing. She gets along with her family as an adult. 

Her being pretty and fashionable i imagine that mayu would think she is soooooo cool growing up and probably also influenced her interest in fashion? I dont think she takes so much responsibility in looking after her younger siblings but she cares about them. But like in a nonchalant way. They are not going to have a long open conversation talking about all their feelings.

Mayu

One year older than Jiro. His littermate. Does ballet? She likes dressing up and cute things and cares about how people see her. She can also be selfish but i think in a way that is healthy for a kid to be. 

i would say that she can probably see the most of how jiro struggles and worries about him in a way. You can tell they are close. Like when she got asked about what school he is going she assumed that he didnt choose yet because she hasnt heard about it. 

They are also kind of similar maybe.. I think they just have similar values..? At least used to. So its interesting to compare them. I think the main difference is that mayu is normal about wanting things and pushing her way while also having the ability to read the room. She is well balanced i think. She is more good at living than jiro. 

Mayu is a middle child but her being so close in age to Jiro, she acts more like a youngest child i think. She will use her older sibling status to boss Jiro around sometimes though lol
