we clearly don’t think enough about the beautiful and complex relation of azula and zuko. i don’t mean the oh my god azula is sooo heartless, sugoi sugoi they destroy each other. naaah, nah nah, i mean the oh my god do you realize how she cared for his big brother when they were young? but ozai’s treatment brainwashed her so bad she had her feelings crushed into void until she wasn’t able to care and know what the hell she felt towards zuko — except ozai’s own words and spite alone. she shows on several scenes that she loves him, or at least, she remembers caring and looking out for him.
sure the development wouldn’t be as intense, angsty and unique, but do you guys realize how fierce and beautiful they’d be as sister and brother together, genuine thing. if her being a prodigy wasn’t both the twisted pride, egoistical fear and jealousy of ozai for his own daughter.
i just think it’s beautiful, how well azula knows zuko like the back of her hands. how zuko still care for azula, like in the comic, it is showed. they’re so complicated, broken, strong, wild, and wow how i wish their mother took more time, kept azula under her wing instead of just scolding her endlessly. she deserved so much love, and respect. azula deserved to be seen as a young girl before being seen as a perfect prodigy and killing machine potential. that’s where everyone failed. but zuko.
