Ode to Beethoven

Austrian Cultural Forum in Belgrade and FDU’s experimental laboratory held an online hackathon comptetition where the main goal was to visually represent an Ode to life of Ludwig van Beethoven. Our team wins second place and then adapts the work in the form of 3d mapping. The mapping deals with the internal course of the Beethoven’s process of creation; after the loss of the sense of hearing, Beethoven composed while dreaming.

The work tries to connect the four phases of sleep with the phases of his originative process. Sound of decomposed Ode of Joy was made originally by Matej Rusmir.

We all strive for a certain ease in life, bearing in mind that weight is an indispensable part of oneself. The equilibrium state is one of the most important states, and in order to do that, we have to make constant movements. By making a movement, we create beats, pulses and dynamics which together form one defined atmosphere. The facade is a physical and material manifestation of something that does not have to be defined, something that does not have a metaphor and an abstract thought. Due to its low density, aluminum is often used in circumstances where it is necessary to reduce weight. The reducibility of the material fits into the concept of simplicity of expression. The essence of the project is the possibility of resonance in the created atmosphere. It presents potential, a thought, a moment in time and space. Quiet and gentle expressions are of great importance. The lightness of the imprinted and poured material tells its story and creates the main form, which is important, but not crucial. The nakedness of the structure, honest moves and sensitivity of the resulting space is crucial at a given moment. Silent matters.

Monuments and memorial complexes of socialist Yugoslavia

Images of monuments and memorial complexes erected during socialist Yugoslavia, in memory of dramatic and tragic events from the Second World War, have recently attracted considerable media attention. These monuments and sites, mainly built during the 60s and 70s of the last century - which became famous for their unusual shapes and often compared to some science fiction scenes or extraterrestrial buildings - are the achievements of a specific cultural and monumental policy of SFRY that reflected the goals, practices and the delusions of a unified political system, passionately developed and rapidly destroyed between 1945 and 1990.

These sites and monuments are mainly designed as specific spatial interventions related to a specific location and related to its specific narrative. As such, they represent a particular form of remembrance in the form of revenge by the collective revolutionary will, spirit and determination for the agony and torture of the masses. These abstract-symbolic forms are designed in non-traditional and economical art materials (mainly concrete and aluminum) and have become landmarks generated by contemporary research and discussion.

The aim of this seminar was to bring together researchers, students and artists interested in the legacy of the socialist period. The curator and leader of the seminar was Branislav Dimitrijevic, professor of art history and theory, and an expert on modern Yugoslav culture. The expert associate on the project was the architect Ljubica Slavković. The sites visited during the seminar serve as an incentive for various types of research: historical, social and artistic.

Due to the new situation caused by the global pandemic COVID-19, there is a desire to spend time outside, which leads to a large concentration of people on less widespread surfaces. There is a desire to spend time outside, especially in nature, and this leads to a large concentration of people on less widespread spaces. Introducing new activity along the riverfront relieves the city's over-saturated greenery, creating new environment, opening up new activities on the river. Boats become isolated modular spaces for one or two people. Six key points are located in the city, by the river, which become the points of view where further situations develop. The projected idea of movement works according to the system of the network which contains static and motion pro­grams. Static elements in the function of a lookout, a stop, a canopy and a resting place operate on the principle of piles, and are located in the first zone, closer to the coast. The second zone is reserved for floating surfaces of different typologies. The line of movement of the boats was pulled 50 meters from the shore for the safety of the users and also to keep the waterway unladen.

This project’s goal was to get an insight into the field of art and culture of two-dimensional design through the study of universal design principles as well as the development of cognitive functions. By experimenting and researching, using modern materials and concepts, developing individuality in the realization of tasks and the skill of its theoretical and critical interpretation. Analytical in the interpretation of modern plasticity. Connecting knowledge in the field of art, sculpture, applied arts, three-dimensional products as well as architecture.

URBAN SYNTHESIS: STRICT CENTER

The project questions the possibility of new architecture program in the old city center of Belgrade. Having in mind the historic, cultural and contemporary complexion of the location, the designing approach had to be related to the existing elements, in order not to impose completly new living flows.

The main motive in forming new spaces, was the idea of giving the town the new landscape image. It is forming through many studies of the existing city silouettes, and by manipulating them, the new structure has originated.

Collage was used as methodology, inspired by the existing context of Belgrade city center. Experimenting with analog and digital technics and questioning the relation between old and new, as part of the process of architectural conceptualization.

The following reasearh focuses on the study and future development of the abandoned terrytories in Banja Luka, Bosna and Herzegovina. 

The exact location is a place of former industry complex lncel, which is situated on the city periphery. The factory was destroyed in the oil explotion few years ago. Nearby, there is a future housing complex 

to be built, as well as a railway passing between them. 

This study uses architecture elements as a tool for finding out how could this complex situation might be enhanced in the future.

This is the research for the Doctoral Disertation of Mila Mojsilović,  ,,The concept of fragmentation and coding of the imperfection toward new forms of architectural modernity’’ It contains both graphic and filmed material, in which we tried to contextualize the processes of fragmentation in the aera of digital. Film is formed from a set of different shots of antient ruins from Greek and Roman period, as well as, contemporary elements of the digital aestetics, which provoke future architecture concepts as they are already incomplete in their material and metaphysiscal reality.

M01 Studio project

Research concept drawing of interior design project that was focusing on Azuma House in Sumiyoshi, Osaka, Japan. It is one of the earliest works of the self-taught architect Tadao Ando, where the house is split into a spaces devoted to daily life (composed of an austere geometry) by the insertion of an abstract space for the games of wind and light. Research was focused on the noise and the tempo of life in Osaka.
