“actually, no.” he confessed as he sat down in front of the steering wheel, not starting the car and instead thinking for a minute. “absolutely no idea. the only plausible thing would be to just do whatever the fuck they want from me so i can live a happy carefree life and nobody will ever bother me about anything anymore.”

“i know just as much as you do, so i’m in no position to provide you answers. let’s just-- go back to my place and we’ll discuss further things there, alright?” kody suggested without really leaving her time to respond and instead dragging her along with him once again into his car. “look, i’m sorry you’re being treated like an object but as you just witnessed, things are kinda hectic right now and i need to figure out how i can get rid off you so both you and i can be happy.”

kody relentlessly tried to make the regent understand that he could in no way take care of her as he did not have the time for it, but no matter how much time he spent arguing, he did not seem to get his way this time. “great, so now i have to take care of a baby witch like a fucking babysitter.” the boy mumbled to himself, rolling his eyes so far back, he must be able to see his own brain. “come on then, deveraux. time to show you your new home for the next couple of weeks.”

“you’re right, there isn’t. guess you’ll just have to trust me.” he smirked at her before getting out of the car and making her do the same. “witches of the french quarter coven, i have brought with me maribel deveraux-- resurrected from the dead. unfortunately she is the only one, however we will most likely see the rest of the harvest girls follow up to her,  considering maribel was the last to be sacrificed.” as always, kody had a confident smirk on his face which was quickly wiped off his face by the words of the regent. “that’s marvelous, kody, but now it is time for you to properly fulfill your duty. maribel is probably confused and doesn’t know how to use her powers yet. you as our best and most trained warlock will have to teach her everything you know in order to make her have control over her new powers. i advise you to take her into your own home and keep her there until she knows what she’s doing. maribel deveraux is now in your custody, kody la fleur.” 

“i promise you will be able to see your family right after i brought you to the regent, but for now you’ll just have to wait. i never said you were my prisoner, my duty ends as soon as i drop you off at the coven. they’ll hip hip hooray you for like ten minutes and then let you leave to live your life. no hard feelings.” kody explained nonchalantly as he pulled in the driveway of the coven meet up spot where everyone was patiently waiting since he had told them he would bring a gift. 

“actually, you were my last choice because you’re the only one who actually has a mind of their own and wouldn’t be a victim to my charming ways. however, the ancestors only let me resurrect you. i should be asking you why, considering you were one of them until just a few minutes ago.” kody took her by the hand, guiding her outside of the morgue. “i’m on the line too if none of you wake up. they’d blame me for not doing my duty properly so i’m only helping myself here. i’ll bring you to the regent so the good news will spread.” he pushed her into his car and immediately started driving off. to be fair, he had not fully expected his spell to work so he had no clue how exactly this would go on from now on.

“i’m…. i’m b-back.” she attempted to form the words as she reached up attempting to get up before unfamiliar hands guided her to steadyness. her eyes fell on the bodies of her fallen sisters. the images of the night settling in her mind. “you.” she whispered, recognizing the figure that had rescued her from the shadows. “you did this to me– you did this to them.” maribel managed to make out, her brown orbs glaring at the male. her complexion turning crimson as she pulled away from him. “you will pay.” the girl threatened. “phesmatos pyrox morsinus illum” maribel uttered, a rush of power spreading all around the female as she watched the male attentively. her new abilities both shocked and scared her. how could she control them? 

“don’t even try.” kody scoffed, making a swift hand movement to stop maribel’s power. “i brought you back so i have a lot of power over you. especially since you don’t know how to control yourself.” he handed her a new dress. “put this on. i only resurrected you because the ancestors didn’t want to. do you know in how much trouble i am if anyone finds out about this? you’re gonna tell everyone that you were resurrected by the ancestors and that you were the chosen one. i swear to god if you tell a living soul what really happened i will put you back wherre you belong.”
