Meta Knight stopped in front of the booth, his gaze flicking briefly over the shelves stacked with plushies, masks, and trinkets. He said nothing at first, and that silence was worse than any shouting could have been.

“You returned.” His voice was cool, measured.

Magolor laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head. “Y-Yeah! Surprise? Hehe… but, uh… look, I’ve turned things around! Theme parks! Games! Cotton candy! No more world domination attempts, I promise.”

Meta Knight’s eyes narrowed slightly. “...Hmph.”

Magolor wasn’t sure if that meant forgiveness or disdain. Then Meta Knight’s gaze froze on a particular merchandise item.

A plushie. Of himself.

Arms crossed, Meta Knight tilted his head. “I don’t recall giving you permission to sell these.”

Magolor almost choked. “O-Oh, that? That’s just—uh—they’re popular! The Waddle Dees love you! Top prize, really! It’s- uh, practically good for morale!”

“Take it down.”

The command was blunt, no room for argument, but Magolor’s instincts were sharper than his common sense, and a mischievous spark lit his eyes.

“Oh okay. I’ll tell you what, big guy. If you can beat Kirby on the Draw with a perfect score, I’ll take it down.”

Meta Knight’s brow raised ever so slightly. They both walked towards the mini game room. Then, wordlessly, Meta Knight reached for the toy gun. Without hesitation, without even looking, he fired. Every wooden target dropped in a flurry of splintering wood. The crowd gasped in awe.

Magolor’s jaw nearly hit the floor. “…Heheh. You, uh… didn’t even have to look, huh?”

Meta Knight set the gun down neatly.

Magolor swallowed hard, plucked the plushie from the shelf, and handed it over. “Here you go. Now you can, uh… cuddle yourself, I guess.” He tried to make it sound like a joke, but his voice cracked halfway through.

Meta Knight turned without a word, cape swirling behind him. Magolor exhaled shakily, back slumping as relief washed over him. He thought that was it, but halfway across the plaza, Meta Knight stopped.

“Magolor.”

The mage stiffened, ears perking up. “Y-Yes?”

Meta Knight turned his head just enough for his gleaming eyes to meet Magolor’s. With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the plushie back. Magolor caught it clumsily, blinking.

“You cuddle it.”

And for the first time all day, Meta Knight’s voice curved into the barest smirk. Then he walked away, disappearing into the crowd.

Magolor stared down at the plushie, his face heating up until it matched the balloons floating above. “…Well... alright.” he muttered, clutching the toy tighter than he’d admit.
