Q: WHY DID RUBY'S QUESTIONLESS SUMMONING OF JINN GET SCOLDED, WHILE OSCAR'S DIDN'T?

The difference is intention: Ruby summoned Jinn to buy herself a moment of time. While the spirit did admit this was clever, it was distinctly not Jinn's purpose, and so she warned the girl not to waste her time in the future.

Oscar, on the other hand, did in fact summon Jinn for the purpose of seeking knowledge. Despite the fact that neither he, Hazel, nor Emerald ask a question of the spirit, they did in fact find knowledge in her summoning. While a bit of an annoyance, she finds this to be less egregious than Ruby's offense.

Oscar likely wouldn't have gotten away with this too many times, however.

@unlockthestars: Oh but their little sister was a curious being, if they did say so. Maybe she would have more answers for them.

"I'm told you hold all Knowledge," they practically purred, tail flicking behind them. "Is that true or were they pulling my tail again?" Apparently they hadn't heard about the 'three questions a century' rule. But since they were siblings, surely she would be able to tell them more than those humans had? [look I couldn't resist; xoxo A Cat Most Curious]

Oh? Well, this was certainly a first... 

Not a cat, not truly. Whatever this creature that had summoned her was, she couldn't entirely say: something about them was blocked from her vision, from that gift she had always been so burdened with. The Spirit's expression is strange for a moment — staring so closely, eyes narrowed as though trying, trying to peer deeper into this strange being and finding herself unable to pry anything further but a strange pain in the back of her mind.

That same pain she felt when she tried too hard to divine on the Gods, to seek out knowledge that lurked beyond her borders.

"I certainly wasn't pleased..."

Distressed felt a bit strong, but she knew that she certainly hadn't wished to bestow that knowledge upon Cinder Fall — especially knowing what she would undoubtedly do with it. It wasn't the first time that her knowledge had been used for cruelty, and if the world did not end at Salem's hands, she doubted if it would be the last. "I was disappointed that their well-thought plan was going to fall apart."

"It's similar enough to the inside of the Vaults — ah, but... you never saw them. That's right. I suppose your nieces would be able to explain." What was the purpose of her remark? Perhaps just seeking to rub salt in a wound, perhaps just playing out her own amusements. It's difficult to say, but she makes a loose sweeping gesture with her hand before continuing: "An ethereal space of sand and sky, completely devoid of time. Pleasant enough, I suppose."

Lonely. She leaves that part out.

Truthfully, the worst side effect is the boredom. When you know how everything has turned out, when you can nigh-always predict the outcome of things, there comes a point when you become bored with it all: there is no joy in seeing things play out exactly as you expected them to.

This is part of why she enjoys this latest generation of huntsmen so much. They do not conform to the rules and expectations set out by the past: they are carving out a new path for themselves, and while she can predict some of their choices, there is a newfound interest for her in them.

Beyond that, Jinn cannot relax. There is always information just coming into her mind, constantly. It's loud. It's constant. And while knowledge is the thing she craves the most in the world, that does not mean that the continous flow of information never gets to be overwhelming. Like a headache she can never quite escape from.

"I never said that I know everything. That's something you humans have implied for yourselves... and it's certainly presumptuous of you." No, she may know everything that has been in the history of Remnant, she cannot see the future, and even then — there are blind spots. One does not simply meddle in the affairs of gods, after all.

"Once the Gods of Light and Darkness left Remnant, I have not been able to see them. My knowledge has been contained to these lands. As for their origins... well. It would appear as if the five children who fell through the world would be the ones to ask about that."

Still, there remains a sharp edge to Jinn's words. Perhaps it would be dangerous to trust the sweet smile that she offers out. "Consider this something of a... loophole. Knowledge can be granted, or knowledge can be taken. This is my offering it."

"I would hardly think it's surprising... Considering Ozma has strained relationships with nearly every person he knows." There's an underlying humor to her words, amusement sparkling in those eyes. "Our relationship is the way that it is because Ozma does not truly desire to be known, and yet he chose to remain my master for several hundred years before leaving me to wait beneath Haven. He dislikes that I know him, yet cannot deny the relief he feels at not needing to pretend to be something he is not."
