                “People are still watchin’ the history channel?” He asks,  tapping his fingers against the side of his leg. Maybe it’s just  because Robert is old. “I thought that was, like, a myth or somethin’.”

i haven’t been around very long tbh, buddy, so i can’t say i’ve picked up on any exclusivity problems. so unfortunately, i can’t really point you in the right direction.

personally, i have trouble following people on this blog that i would on my other blogs just bc getting robert here involved in another au is tough, as is getting another character involved in a ddadds au. so maybe there’s some apprehension about that? i also don’t know a lot about anime and stuff like that so asldkfjsad i don’t tend to follow back for things i don’t know about, so it might be some of that, too, with the other dads blogs.

                                  “hey. buddy. how do you have ... so much ENERGY?” it’s a genuine question, if the uneasy expression on Robert’s face is anything to go by. SINCERE is a new look for him and it’s yet to settle into something resembling convincing. he’s working on it, though. guess you could say he’s taking some SMALL steps. “you’ve got three kids, ya work out. have a business. getting out of bed in the afternoon morning is hard enough as it is for me sometimes.”

                                  “NO, i didn’t give Amanda a knife. how DARE you, first of all, accuse me.” there’s a pause as he looks away -- he’s not floundering. this is ROBERT SMALL we’re talking about here. smooth operator and cool guy. “and even if i did -- not saying that i DID, of course -- it was out of concern for her safety, since she’s heading off to college and college students are scum. if i did give her a knife, i mean. and, hey. BUDDY. at least it wasn’t a TASER.”

    there’s always something eerie about seeing even a FLICKER of himself in a kid. it makes him nostalgic, makes him wonder. maybe it even brings out enough GOOD in him to pipe in – turn on the ‘ dad voice ‘ and at least seem responsible enough for a moment to give advice. it’s always a tough sell, knowing who he is, but he’ll at least TRY.

                                   “hey. i know school sucks – believe me. i probably skipped more days than i stayed when i was your age. couldn’t stand sitting still, couldn’t stand doing math. only classes i really ever liked were HISTORY and FILM.”

     he figures that’s … ‘ relatable ‘ enough. and for all his faults and tall tales and aloofness, he’s speaking from a place of TRUTH right now – what a special treat. put it in the records, boys, Robert’s not trying to cover himself up in layers upon layers of irony and DISTANCE. what can he say? steering wayward souls back in the right direction’s a romantic concept and it’s nice to do something GOOD once or twice a year.
