@tmikaelson: a kiss while being reunited after a long time.
klaus pauses at the door, his foot barely over the threshold, and leans on the doorframe. tay sits on his bed like she doesn't know what to do with herself. he attributes it to the shock of finding herself in a new place, with someone she'd probably thought dead, after the unfortunate run-in that led her here in the first place. still, he feels compelled to ask.
klaus glances at the bedside table. the dinner he'd brought while she was still in the shower sits untouched.
a lie. it was food that his men caught her stealing in the early afternoon. he'd certainly have preferred that their reunion happen under better circumstances. though, as much as he would like to fault his men for treating her like a common thief, it was his orders that led them to do so.
he lets a few moments pass. in that time, tay gets to her feet, visibly feeling out of place. klaus approaches her, slow and cautious, and holds her chin to inspect the damage his men had done. more cuts and bruises than he'd like to see, and a split lip. he sighs, pressing his forehead to hers.
tay leans into the touch. she cups his face and kisses him—desperate, clumsy, her lower lip trembling. klaus thinks about stopping her because he can't tell if it's pain that creases her forehead or her effort to supress tears.
but she keeps kissing him, and he can do nothing but kiss her back, and when they pull apart, he's gently thumbing her tears away.
tay breaks the silence first. she smiles in disbelief, her hands wandering, every touch meant to convince her that he's not a mirage.
klaus traces her lower lip with his thumb, stopping shy of the cut. "are you sure you're alright?"
he mirrors it, pushing today's events out of his mind. his men's punishment can wait until after she has settled.
