Okay I think I can explain this

When someone makes a dark skinned character lighter it usually stems from one thing. It stems from not finding dark skinned people attractive, either deliberately or not. This in fact hurts dark skinned people. For example 12 year old me who found myself unattractive and made my own persona white when I wasn't

Now when you make a light skinned character dark skin that stems from wanting to see yourself in them. It's not because you found the light skinned character unattractive but rather a headcanon. This doesn't hurt anyone and if you're uninterested you can block, scroll ect
