Professional Organizations
An organization that I might be interested in joining is the Nebraska Association for the Education of Young Children. The mission of the organization is to strengthen and support early childhood community. Nebraska AEYC began in 1976 and is organized as a nonprofit corporation. The association is organized in a tiered system. There are two large local afflliate chapters, and several small local and student chapters. Membership is open to anyone interested in supporting and promoting the mission of the organization. A membership fee includes membership in the local, state, regional, and nation AEYC organizations. Membership dues are regularly 50 dollars, but for students the cost is only 40 dollars.
Another organization that I would be interested in joining is Nebraska Council for Exceptional Children. The organization’s mission is to set the standard for high quality education for children and youth with exceptionalities. With your membership you can have access to CEC publications, Advocacy and support, career development, professional divisions, and books, media, and training. Their publications include, Teaching Exceptional Children, Exceptional Children, and CEC today. Teaching Exceptional Children is useful articles to teach and administer programs for children with disabilities, Exceptional Children is original research on the education and development of children, and CEC today is a member newsletter that keeps you up-to-date on professional and legal developments. Students preparing for employment and preforming educational duties can join the organization for only 15 dollars. There are many upcoming events such as the Color Me Rad (5k) on July 8, which supports the Special Olympics, and the Owl Ride on July 14.
