Eremika is the saddest love story and tragedy argue with the wall
"Oh but Eren never loved Mikasa, she's such a weird and obsessive character."
"Eren's love came out of nowhere in the last episode."
I can write a whole essay on why you're wrong.
Eren's love did NOT come out of nowhere lmao. I'm rewatching aot rn and there are SO MANY subtle hints that he finds his motivation from her. Eren fell first, Mikasa fell hard, and Eren fell harder.
Aot is based in a war-like environment where 100 soldiers die every episode and Eren is simply not the type of a person to divulge his feelings immediately.
That's his personality, his character, and Mikasa isnt stupid nor insane to not realise Eren has mutual feelings for her, that's why she never left him. She's overprotective (not possessive) because he's the love of her life and the only remaining strength she had left, and Carla ASKED mikasa to protect him.
There are SO MANY scenes of Eren in s1, s2, s3 looking at Mikasa in admiration and coming back to reality with motivation. And unlike Mikasa (who's emotional and open with her feelings), Eren has a HUGE burden of being "special" for the sake of humanity that he simply does not have time to think of his love life in the middle of a war.
Despite that, Eren STILL thinks of Mikasa during battles and wars. She's always lingering, always his priority, always there. When he was in detention at the end of s3, he was overwhelmed and depressed with the memories he was receiving from Grisha and Eren Kruger, yet the minute he got out, he checked up on Mikasa and called out if she had lost weight.
Armin is really close to Mikasa too, but he didnt point it out because he isnt madly in love with Mikasa as badly as Eren is in love with her. If anything, Eren is OBSESSED with Mikasa deep down. Eren canonically craves Mikasa's attention. They're just two young people in the wrong universe, destined to be together, yet Eren is also fated to die in every universe from his chase for freedom.
Eren said he will wrap Mikasa's scarf around her, over and over and over again, forever. When did he first wrap Mikasa in that scarf? When he first met her, comforted her, protected her & saved her from her s£x traffickers (mind you, he blushed). The scarf is a symbol of love, care and protection. "I will wrap it again and again.." = "I will love you to eternity and protect you forever, even after death."
Eren told Zeke "Anyone who tries to take my freedom away shall be punished" while witnessing the memory of 9 year old Eren killing Mikasa's traffickers. Eren's freedom wasn't just the abolishment of inner slavery or escaping from the trapped cages (the walls), it was Mikasa. His freedom was Mikasa. He wanted freedom for Mikasa, to be with her and to live with her, love her forever and ever. He wanted to spend his last 4 years with her, wanting to make her happy before he dies. He wanted to create a world where both of them could live freely forever.
He loves her. He loves her in a way that did not require any romantic scene like a kiss or a confession to make it believable, this is the only show that perfectly showed the depth of true love.
Eren's symbolic creature, a white bird which represented freedom, finally wrapped the scarf around Mikasa even after his death, so she can live in peace with freedom while being protected by Eren's spirit. She died with that scarf, with Eren's love.
To the boy who sought freedom, goodbye.
Here forever, rest peacefully, my most beloved, my dear.
(PS: I literally cry to Eremika's ending like every single time i think about them, especially every time I rewatch Attack On Titan.)
