I think that in a universe where eddie doesn't die, richie quickly realizes that being able to say "I love you" isn't something that he can take for granted. richie becomes the type of guy who slips an "I love you" in at the end of phone calls, sleepily before they go to bed, hurriedly as he rushes out the door in the morning. he says constantly, it to the point where eddie would probably find it annoying if he didnt love richie back so much. richie says it all the time, even when the stakes are low, because there's nothing that he could think of that would be worse than eddie not knowing how much he loves him
