Can you speak more to this? I don’t quite get it.

People often conflate submissive and masochist, and dominant and sadist. They’re all separate kink identities. Sometimes there can be overlap, but they don’t mean the same thing. Dominant and submissive mean the participants enjoy power exchange, while sadist and masochist mean the participants enjoy either giving or receiving consensual pain 

And it’s not always submissive and masochists and dominants and sadists. Some subs enjoy giving pain (sadists), some doms enjoy receiving it (masochists). And sometimes subs and doms don’t like playing with pain at all. Sadists and masochists can also just not be interested in power exchange at all, just pain

Also, some people are switches so they enjoy either side of a power dynamic, and some people are sadomasochists so they enjoy both giving and receiving pain

These posts talk about the fluidity and conflation of labels; that submissive and masochist are not the same, that masochism can be about pleasure from pain or pleasure from giving a sadist what they need...

This also applies to the level to which you can enact your masochism. Pain thresholds are unique and can ebb and flow, and the amount of pain you can take at any given point doesn't make anyone more or less of a masochist.
