remember when svetlana surprised ilya in his house and she thought ilya wasn’t happy to see her

here she said “you dont deserve me. i have to go.”

it was obvious joke kinda thing but then i remembered episode 5, where ilya fought with his brother and svetlana was there for him…

here ilya says “i dont deserve you.”

and svetlana relied:

“you deserve me but you dont want me.”

and then she was like….

“if you ever need me, i will always be close to you, im not going anywhere.”

And it was also so necessary to show that Ilya does have someone there for him. I think painting Ilya as someone with literally no one else in his life that he cares for outside of hockey and then having him go all in on anything with Shane would just come across as depressing and feel somewhat doomed to fail tbh.

He just lost his family and is finally free from the burdens his brother placed on his shoulders, but he is also suddenly facing a very lonely future. But then Svetlana is right there, checking his bloody knuckles and making it clear that she is still there. That she will remain there, that she loves him and will be part of his life no matter what comes next.
