“Just what, Em?”

     “How bad is it to start a political carrier in a time where politics depress you?”

“I’d say that’d be the perfect time to start it. The only reason people do politics is because they’re unhappy with what’s already in place.”

“That sounds terrible. I wouldn’t want to be that because my mother’s Mother’s Days involve terrible presents from my dad.”

“So, you’re saying I’m the queen of terrible presents?”

“You look pretty good for a ghost.”

“I try. The whole death thing threw a real curve ball into my social life.”

“Has the system failed you too?”

“I didn’t really have high expectations though.”

“Are you really that surprised?”

“People don’t tend to like it when others just up and leave.”

“Oh my God. Someone was saying you were dead. I didn’t believe it of course, but it’s nice to see that you are not dead and we can prove that person wrong with their erroneous slander.”

“Actually, I am dead.”

“I’m pretty sure someone started a rumor that you were dead.”

“Maybe I am. I’m now the ghost of Mother’s Day past.”

“I’m glad you did, everyone should have a home base somewhere”

“Can’t say I expected to see that sort of smile on your face. Really that glad to see me?”

“A person falls off the map for a bit and not even a single phone call? So much for all the talk of small town southern hospitality.”

“You’re telling me.”

“Yes, well, we can’t all always be right. Now can we?”

“Is it your first time? You know, not being right?”

“Oh now, cher,” She cooed in a low voice. “don’t nobody come in here, wit a face like and say she ain’t got nothin’ wrong. Pas vrai, cher. What’s happenin’ with you?”

“Just not big on chatting about my life so much.”

“I was just worried and stuff because I haven’t seen you a lot since the flood.”

“Oh, just watched pretty much the last of what I had roll down a hill. Been a bit on the sad side. Not really interested in company.”

“I take that as a yes.”

“I just wanna do my things and hit the road. Is that too much to ask?”

“Too much effort man.”

“You still ain’t freaked out by me, are you?”
