I'll start with necrophilia itself. It's not exactly an attraction to corpses, but rather an attraction to people who can't say "no." These people are afraid of real people, as they are just as complex as Lawrence himself. He may not understand what they have in mind, and he may even kill them during sexual intercourse. (We have some people who like to strangle.) He may judge them, misunderstand them, or reject their ideas. Above all, he needs to feel safe. He knows that the dead are mute and cannot refuse or resist. He is afraid of this world and does not understand people, just as they have not understood him since childhood. He was rejected by the school community (and he went home schooled after junior high, losing out on social interaction with others outside of his home), his parents, in the face of his sisters, were dissatisfied with him and the older he became, the more they were afraid of him at all. They tried to change him, to make him normal. . . But it didn't quite help and now he has a complex on this account. He perceives his flaws, not as problems, but as his individuality. It's easier for him to deform you under him than you to deform him under you. Instead of a corpse, he would be quite satisfied with a disabled person who had a lobotomy or lost limbs (that's why he removed them for us so that we couldn't escape or do something that he would regret. It is important for him to control the situation). Like, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually gave us a lobotomy. Such people are submissive, unable to fight back, dumb and quiet, and that's what he needs. By the way, it annoys him when a person makes noise or talks too loudly. He doesn't need a corpse, but rather someone who is convenient for him. And this attraction is an attempt to compensate for his own inferiority, because it doesn't work with normal and healthy people. Plus, about them... Lawrence has never been approached for a romantic relationship in his life, and he's very shy about it.
So what do we have? Being alienated from society as a child, his parents' lack of involvement due to their fear of their own son, and even then, his strange behavior (as a child, he wanted to take home a dead raccoon, and at school, he often got into fights with his classmates).
Additionally, considering that he is literally a living corpse, these people may be a bit closer to him. However, I highly doubt that he chooses people who are completely withered and reduced to bones. I think he prefers "half-fresh", those who have been buried relatively recently or have not reached the stage of frank decomposition in the last stage.
We have a special department in our brain - the Amygdala (amygdala). It is responsible for the formation of emotions,
including disgust. But for some people, this function can be dulled, work the opposite ( ? ).. ugh.. I don't know how to explain it
A corpse has 3 stages of decomposition and smell:
1) first, the corpse begins to smell sweet-nauseous smell;
2) after a couple of days, it begins to smell extremely stinky;
3) and then there is decomposition.
The smell of a corpse scares us and our brain starts to give us signals of fear and disgust. We understand that something is wrong and we need to run away, but this may not be the case for necrophiles. This part of the brain may not function properly, projecting disgust and fear as something arousing, or there may be no disgust at all, allowing them to touch corpses without any fear.
