“It’s been 20 years. You can build alot during that time.” He said with a sigh. “I am not judging her. If she found someone she loves and who loves her right back, there’s nothing wrong with changing her.” He said with a smile. “Maybe....if Elizabeth lets me meet her.” 

“NO! That’s not how it happened!” Gen tried “I just…I don’t know, I was so horribly confused, I felt poor in my body image after just having a baby…I…The way-…I don’t expect you to understand” she stammered “I just had no idea what to tell you…The lie became too much, too deep” She added. The woman then pacing a few feet ahead, thinking where Rey could have gotten to.

“But I wanna understand.....please. Explain it to me. Make me understand. Please......Gen.” He was almost begging her right now. He just needed to understand why. It would ease his mind. It would bring him closure. “I always thought you looked the most beautiful after having our child. Radiant.” He confessed with a sigh. He sped up his step, keeping up with her. 

Aurora gave a bright smile and immediately grabbed her father’s large hand and began to tug him forward. “Oh yes! I’d love to show you around! You can stay with us obviously! I live with Seth. Oh and you have to meet my best friend Lux. Father she saved my life! And she’s been teaching me all these new words and things I didn’t even know existed!” She laughed ranting on about her stay in New York. Then she paused and turned around. “Have you ever been on the surface father?”

Triton chuckled at his daughter’s enthusiasm. It warmed his heart to see her this excited. “Aurora. Honey. Calm down. We have enough time for everything.” He told his daughter with a huge smile on his face as he followed her. “I have. A long time ago. But not for a very long time.” 

Yes.. I’m getting married and she’s NOT royalty sorry to break it to you.” She paused. “The kid was an accident but she’s my world and I want the best for her. And I don’t want my kid to be a fish her whole life.” Liz sighed. “Aurora is practically attached to you. I’m even surprised she ran away from you. And Seth is just a big jughead avoiding his responsibilities of being next in line. You should take them.” She shoved her hands in her pockets and sighed. “Besides I’m a danger to the community here and in the water. I’m different. I’d just make things worse.”

“Does she make you happy? Cause if she does I don’t care who or what she is.” He told her honestly. He just wanted her to be happy. That’s all he ever wanted for his children. “I understand that.” Triton said with a nod of his head. “I can’t force either of them to come back down. And I won’t. But I will try. Seth will have to learn to face his responsibilities and Aurora.......Aurora is different.” He said with a sigh, trying not to think about it too much. “I don’t know what happened, Elizabeth. But I doubt you are a danger.” 

“It just happened…It just continued and went on…I…” she then swallowed thickly “No no, it wasn’t your title. It was just how others began to see me, no one told me straight, no one ever mouthed off to me, challenged me…It was a complicated set of emotions” she mumbled, ashamed of herself. “I know and I should have” she added. “I have thought about it, but the life I have up here…I’d have to return up to it. You think so?”

Triton sighed and nodded his head. ‘It just happened’ sounded like such a loaded phrase. “So you turned away from ME because of how OTHERS treated you?” He asked confused. It wasn’t an accusation he just tried to understand. “Well you are talking about it with me now....that counts for something.” He said softly. “Of course.” He said, though he sighed, sad that she wouldn’t consider returning for good. He wished he could just give it up just like everyone else and follow his family here, but he couldn’t. He was bound to the underwater more than anyone else.

“I guess I’ve always wanted to be that brother to her.” He said softly. “She does indeed, she’s had to make a life for herself up here…You have to realise that, Father? she even turned a witch into one of us.”

“You were a good brother to her.” He told him with a nod of his head. “Of course. I don’t blame her for building herself a life. How could I?” He said with a sigh. “Oh she did? Why?” 

“I-…” The blonde swallowed thickly and then sighed out “It went on until Liz was a teenager, but it stopped when I fell pregnant with Aurora..Or at least I tried to stop it” The blonde refused to keep eye contact with him “It was never because I didn’t love you….It was just- she treated me so differently, spoke to me like I wasn’t a queen. I just felt normal” she tried to explain “Shes a fragile thing” she said, looking to him as they walked alongside each other “I miss my tail”

Triton released a deep breath, trying not to let this revelation affect him too much. He didn’t know it went on for this long, though he could’ve figured it out. “That long?” He asked in a whisper, trying to hide his pain. “So my title drove you into the arms of another woman? Because I made you a Queen?” He asked, a humorless chuckle following his words. “You could’ve talked to me you know?” He said then, in a whisper, trying to wrap his head around everything. “You do? Maybe you should’ve come back in the water then? Just for a little? Though I do have to say that your legs look great.” 

“Well, she listened to me….Sure she always looked up to me as a brother. But she wasn’t happy that her past had caught up to her. You know, she’s got a kid. Makes you a grandfather.”

“That is true. She always admired you.” He said with a light chuckle. “I hope she listens.” He said with a sigh. He looked up at the mention of a child. “A child? I am a grandfather?” He asked, his face twisting in awe.

Liz shook her head. “I have a life here father. A fiancée… and child now. “ she sighed. “Take Aurora and Seth if you want but nothing will change my mind. I’m staying here..” She looked down at the ground, hesitating to speak for a moment. “To go back to a life where people tend to your every will, lay rose petals at your feet… or who will know me only for the person who killed their queen. No thanks. “

Triton’s face softened at her words. “You’re getting married? And you have a child?” He asked with a tone of awe. He missed so much of his daughter’s life in those past 20 years and he hated himself for it. He wished things were different. He sighed but nodded his head at her words. “I obviously can’t force you to come back. I can’t force Seth and Aurora either. If this is where you’re happy.....then stay. I just came to make things right.” He told her sincerely. 

Aurora blinked her eyes at her father curiously and a bit confused. “I love you too.” She smiled brightly. “I’m so sorry I left the palace. I was just so worried when Seth left. And it was getting very lonely too.” She explained looking at her hands for a moment before peeking right up. “I’m so very much excited you’re here! I’ve missed you!”

Triton’s heart warmed when Aurora said she loves him too. He shook his head at her apology. “It’s okay, dear. I am not mad at you.” He told her sincerely. And he really wasn’t. He had other things to deal with right now, his daughter leaving the palace without his permission wasn’t one of them. “I have missed you too love.” He said moving to hug her again. “Now will you show me around? Navigating on land isn’t exactly my strong suit.” 

“I can’t help but do so…” Gen sighed, looking down and then pinching the bridge of her nose as she thought about it “I did…It was a long time ago and it went on for some time-” she felt sick the more she explained it, feeling nothing but rotten and evil. “I hope you’re right”

Triton simply nodded his head in response. “How long?” He asked, his voice only a whisper, a little scared of what the answer might be. “She seems like a smart kid. I am sure she’ll be fine.” 

Seth nodded, he had to agree with that “Well, that I can’t fault you on. She’ll probably yell and get angry- but I know she’ll listen eventually”

Triton nodded his head, knowing that Seth would agree with him on this one. “I hope she will listen. I know she’s angry with me, but I do hope she will listen.”

“You really think that she’ll talk to you?” Seth wondered.

Triton shook his head. “No. But I gotta at least try.” 

“I don’t know where to start on it…It should have been a warning sign of Mag when I first met her trying to kill our son when Seth had wandered beyond the border” she sighed “It wasn’t long after I’d had Liz..” she added. “Come with me then, I need the extra eyes.”

“Maybe it should’ve been, but you shouldn’t dwell on the past too much. What’s done is done.” He told her gently. “You met her that long ago?” He asked with a frown. “Alright. I will accompany you. I am sure she’s fine.” 

“I’m not sure. I had this weird feeling.. something told me to come to the shore. And well here you are!” She smiled brightly. She not knowing Megan was her mother and Triton not her father. “Have you come to bring everyone home?”

Triton sighed at his daughter’s words.....well not his daughter. He didn’t like her being on the shore as well but he guessed he couldn’t stop her. The king nodded his head at her question. “I have.” He agreed before he kissed her forehead. “No matter what happens, I want you to know, I love you. Okay?” 

Part of Liz wanted to embrace her father and hug him softly, the other part wanted to deck him in the face as hard as she could. She pulled back from him. “Why did you come here..” she then demanded.

Triton saw the conflict in his daughter’s eyes but didn’t comment on it. He didn’t wanna anger her even more. He sighed when she pulled back from him. “I want you to come home, Elizabeth. I want all of you to come home. I want us to be a family again....and I know I’m probably 20 years too late but I wanna try.” 

“Triton, you only know the half of it…” Gen chided, shaking her head and giving a sigh, her eyes now full of worry for where her youngest had run off to. “Please, she’s 19 but shes a naive 19…” The queen admitted “I’m just hoping she ran home.”

“Then tell me......all of it.....so I can understand.” He said in a soft tone, pleading her with his eyes. “Well, if you need help to find her....I’m here.” He offered genuinely. “I hope you’re right.”
