Something I'm constantly analyzing as a little person is how narrow a line I have to walk to be humanized and respected by the able bodied/average height community. Any amount of me being abrasive or rude can entirely undermine my attempts at being good, and often the only, representation of a real life little person people get. And on top of that, if I were to step into anger then I become humerous via the countless "small and angry" archetypes we see in media. It's funnier if I get angry in the face of people who are making a mockery of my body. Stepping outside myself to literally Teach people how to treat me was something I knew how to do by the time I was four years old and in school. I had to become the expert on my own disability in order to limit the chances of violence against me - and learning that even the most detailed explination is not enough to win people's favor or educate them out of ignorance was devestating for a child. And it wasn't like my queerness or my gender where I could find a community, even a small one. I was the ONLY little person as far as the eye could see. I was alone. When it finally came to it, building relationships with little people purely on the basis that we were little wasn't enough - my neurodivergence, gender, and alternative lifestyle would get in the way. Even amongst little people I am too fat, too queer, too strange. The profound isolation does something to you - does something to a child. The physical world has never accounted for me to show up.
