Judge Kang Supremacy

I actually really like Soo-hyun. I think she's incredibly complicated and I feel for her. The way she's male coded to compliment Ga-on's female coded character. Constantly trying to care for and protect him, fix his problems, dry his tears. They've been through a lot together and have a long history. Even from the beginning she wants to be his knight in shining armour. She became a cop in part to protect him. The way love changes over time, especially a crush that starts in childhood, is so integral to their relationship because sometimes your brain doesn't realize the change is happening. But sometimes you convince yourself 'well I love them so I must love them this way,' and so Soo-hyun never stops chasing a romantic relationship. But she is also not phased when he rejects her. Additionally when he kisses her she doesn't really react and tries to leave. And after he confesses...she takes the bed and he takes the floor. I think the love is there for both of them and very strongly at that but I think it's not sexual and in turn not wildly romantic for that reason. If anything it makes me think of the movie De-Lovely which is the really beautiful dramatized story of Cole Porter's relationship with his wife. He was gay, she was his beard, but they loved each other very much. I don't think you could question their love for each other. Soo-hyun and Ga-on are like that for me. It makes it all the more tragic when she is killed immediately after they start the conversation about their love. It feels unresolved to me. And that in turn contributes to Ga-on being willing to die and then after Yo-han saves him and they later see each other ...Ga-on doesn't run off into the sunset with Yo-han. And Yo-han understands. Every relationship in this show is so complex. Next level story telling and a lot more like real life in that sense.
