Kingdoms and Empires is a low Isekai-fantasy setting where the protagonist of the story is customizable by you! You will choose their appearance, personality, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they cope with their mental health! You will be able to impact the story with your choices, choices that may come back to haunt you for better or worse. 

As the Crown Heir to the Kingdom of Argent, you will navigate childhood, court intrigue, fall in love, fight battles, wage war, and raise a family.

You will have close friends to aid you, a family that will support and love you, a solid foundation you can rely on… but can it rely on you?

Astrid Ulthred (Line-Art): Daughter of Lord Archibald, and younger sister of the Sword Saint Wythela Ulthred. Her father, Imperial Governor of the Province of Ulthred, has kept her isolated from others in an effort to protect her. The reason is for her muteness, seen by other nobles as a weakness in a Blessed Bloodline. This has resulted in her being shy around others. Curious, empathetic, friendly, and trusting.

Nysthe Trevalyn (Line-Art): Younger sister of Lord Kayleth, Imperial Governor of Trevalyn. She is always seen with a confident, if mischievous smile. Constantly surrounded by others thanks to her gregarious nature, she often takes the role of leadership in a group. Many have noted her high emotional intelligence. Brilliant with administration and politics to the point of assisting her brother before arriving at the academy, Nysthe is the epitome of the Belthean High Noblewoman. Perceptive, secretive, obsessive, and ambitious.

Cheris Mendrion (Painting): Daughter of Lord Robert, Imperial Governor of the Province of Beautrix. The treatment suffered by her aunt has made her wary of courtship, and she prefers to be left alone to her art. Many find themselves surprised once they become friends with her, as they soon discover her to be strong-willed and highly critical of imperial society. She also possess talent in all things mathematical, which combined with her family, keeps her safe from disciplinary measures brought against her. Reserved, independent, intelligent, and logical.

Lucina Ulrich (Line-Art): Daughter of the Duke of Silverhill, and childhood friend of our Champion, Lucina is adventurous at heart and an avid day dreamer. She easily loses track of time while reading scores of romance novels. Many find her easy to be friends with, though some think her to be somewhat naive. She’s filled with passion and desire, a want to experience the same things the heroines in her books do. Thanks to her habit of reading, she has become knowledgeable in many fields related to diplomacy and economics. Intuitive, supportive, imaginative, and fearless.

Mary Ewyin (Line-Art): Adopted daughter of Lady Valerie Ewyin, Mary was originally a commoner who lost her family in the Caravan Attack tragedy. She becomes a close friend to you and your siblings, or at least she attempts to try her hardest to support the royal children. Many have become impressed by her diligent efforts, and thanks to the private lessons given by her adoptive mother, she becomes well-versed in politics and inter-kingdom relations. Hard-working, disciplined, sweet, and caring.

Veriel Ulrich (Line-Art): Son and heir to the Duke of Silverhill, and childhood friend of our Champion. Considered by many to be a natural leader, easy-going, and popular. Veriel considers himself your rival, frequently comparing his talents achievements to your own, and has worked to an almost absurd degree to stand by your side. He is heavily burdened by the expectations placed on him, but almost no one notices. Other then this however, he wears his heart on his sleeve, making him well-liked by many. Gregarious, flamboyant, diligent, and zealous.

Edward Mendrion (Painting): Son and heir to Lord Robert, Imperial Governor of the Province of Beautrix. Considered by many to be the ideal Imperial Nobleman, and the most beautiful man in the empire. He is constantly worried about the well-being of his friends, people, and family. Has famously taken on piracy in his lands with the help of his adoptive brother Frederick. He writes poetry in his spare time, which has become rarer as he increasingly takes on more and more duties in helping his father manage the Mendrion demesne. Dutiful, considerate, introspective, and virtuous.

Maximillian (Line-Art): A young man of common birth who has fought and clawed his way to the academy by virtue of his own hard-work and natural talent. He’s become the defender of other commoner students, and frequently gets into fights with nobleborn students who bully them. Exceptionally skilled in martial matters, many consider him to be highly desirable as a future military officer; as such, his duels with nobles are downplayed and dismissed with the help of outside influences. He harbors a secret, and bears an intense hatred for you. Charismatic, kind, courageous, and vengeful.

Zera Arava Lysanda (Line-Art): Son and heir of High Kinlord Mago, Tyrant of Arava. Was sent across the Snowpeaks by his father to submit and appease the Belthean Empire as another attempt to become Imperial Friend and Ally. The empire instead sends him for a time to the Kingdom of Argent, and he becomes a possible childhood friend of yours. After leaving Argent however, he faced constant disrespect and hate from the imperial court, and has changed by the time you arrive at the academy.  Cold, cynical, sarcastic, and melancholic.

Voryn Resdayn (Line-Art): The eldest son of Imperial Grand Vizier Araynys Resdayn. Voryn is the most infamous student in the academy, known for partying and making trouble; and for being rumored to be the greatest swordsman of his generation. Many whisper that he was personally trained by the Sword Saint Wythela. Arrogant and dismissive thanks to his talent, he regularly does as he likes. Self-assured, independent, impulsive, and decisive.

Now, the rollout is being delayed to the second half of 2026.

While this is a minor victory, it still doesn't mean they're going to stop.

This is simply a delay.

They're being strategic, hoping that the public consciousness moves on from this and forgets so they can sneak this through later with pretty words and confident assurances that mean jack shit when combing through their terms and conditions.

They won't drop this easily.

Reddit itself was recently handed a $20 million dollar fine for not doing enough to verify ages in the UK.

"The watchdog took issue with Reddit's age verification measures. It said that even though the platform doesn't allow children under 13 to use its service, it didn't have any way to check the ages of its users before July 2025."

Which brings me to my next point.

This is all being done at the governmental level.

It's politics.

Why?

And with the rise of authoritarian governments, you'd do well to pay attention and watch for any signs of your leaders wanting the same as the above clowns.

So a bit of strange news:

To summarize, Discord next month will force you to scan your face or have you submit your ID to show you're an adult or minor. Accounts that do not do this, will have a ‘teen-appropriate experience by default.’

Some of us may not even have to do the above as “For most adults, age verification won’t be required, as Discord’s age inference model uses account information such as account tenure, device and activity data, and aggregated, high-level patterns across Discord communities. Discord does not use private messages or any message content in this process,” Savannah Badalich, Discord’s global head of product policy, tells The Verge.

What the above means is that they're tracking your activity btw.

Users who aren’t verified as adults will not be able to access age-restricted servers and channels, so no more NSFW.

Remember, they also had a data breach last year when they did this for the UK and Australia peeps.

While writing this, I just came to realize that I've had to ban numerous accounts in more numbers in the last five months then I've ever had to throughout the KaE server's existence.

Which all began when that October breach happened.

As some of you may already know, my mom was a victim of identity theft and I spent an exhausting weekend securing her accounts and information.

In that weekend, I did ALOT of research regarding this issue, and am not convinced Discord will be able to deter future security breaches, nor their third-party partners who will handle our information. Discord says they won't keep our IDs and selfies, but they can't speak for their partners.

Then combined with the fact that what constitutes as "bad for children" is becoming more and more simply things that are Anti-LGBT, especially in this current political climate in the USA; one can see the writing on the wall of where this slippery slope is head down towards.

We saw it already with the itch.io fiasco concerning the payment processors:

I saw a really poignant comment that made me laugh; First they came for the gooners... but I said nothing because I don't goon.

Anyways, the Interactive Fiction community is under attack. As are any other communities that value creativity, stories, and diversity.

In all honesty, most people's experiences probably won't change.

However I'm very wary of this. I don't want to be a part of this. But I also recognize how important Discord is as a community gathering point.

It's uh... a really long prologue!

The Prologue will run you from birth to 14 years of age, ending to set us up nicely for the Upbringing Arc, of which you've heard me talk about and will see more information about at the end of the game.

The Relationships and Codex tabs are unlocked near the end of the prologue, so make sure you don't forget to check them out!

That was a question asked by someone recently on the forums, and specifically, the question is about after the Prologue is released.

The Upbringing Arc will deal with three main routes.

Princess goes south with Adelina, Prince goes west with Remiel, Squire goes north with Uriel.

This will provide three different routes with three different casts of characters with three sets of overarching problems we need to resolve.

Basically, our 14th year on Nareth is a big one where lots of shit is happening at once.

But you can only be at one place while the other two fires resolve themselves.

If we decide to go through the Prince Route

We accompany Remiel to the west and see what the issue is over in Silverhill and the mining production. Why has it stalled? That’s a crisis in the making and requires the Old King coming down from the north against the V’era to remedy. He brings along the Page retinue of our father, while he takes the Squires with him up north.

We meet Veriel and Lucina here, though we wont see them much. Also, this is the route many of you will be familiar with in previous versions, combining both the original and 300k versions together while tweaking many things. (Visit and travel to Silverhill+Malenos town and the unrest)

If we decide to go through the Princess Route

We accompany Mama Adelina to the south with the rest of the ladies-in-waiting since the tensions in the south have risen to the point the Queen has to visit to calm the region with hands-on governance.

As such, we visit the courts of the southern duchies and try to help mom mediate the growing unrest between the Duchies of Caerlion, Blackrun, and Ulfram. These southern duchies are known for being more “civilized” and courtly than the others, and the reason our mother has to personally come is because Blackrun and Ulfram produce the majority of the food in the kingdom, and Caerlion and Blackrun ships it.

A disruption in the supply chain/kingdom logistics would be devastating for the progress our parents have made, thus requiring her physical presence to control the situation and ducal houses.

If we decide to go through the Squire Route

War, war never changes…

Our father arrives with the Squires in tow and his retinue, to forcibly pacify the region once total war breaks out. Only thing ill spoil from what ive said previously, is that the inspiration here will be Caesar in Gaul.

Here, we’ll see the Awakened and Blessings at work/in-conflict, and realize why our father has tried so hard to keep the peace through the years.

It’s supposed to be a huge tone shift from the Prince/Princess routes, and reveal more about our father as he takes center stage, and shows why exactly Imperial Prince Gareth is cautious about unnecessarily provoking him.

We fight alongside our father, and get a glimpse of the man that swiftly brought an end to the Lymarkian War. I actually can’t wait to show what a peace-loving man forced to war means in pragmatic reality.

I think ima keep doing these quick dev notes at the start since they help remind me im actually making progress lololol Sometimes when working at a choice tree you can feel stuck, especially if you try making deep branch paths in there.

So like the image says, my patreons get the small recodex (more like a glossary tbh) tomorrow, and while they nibble on that ill go over the game a few more times and look for any last mistakes, errors, bugs, etc and then add in the last bit of art i had commissioned before launching to the public!

Now that we’re here however, I would like to apologize to everyone for the rough and long journey so far. Thank you for your patience and support, truly.

What i had planned originally would have made the entire game poorly paced with an incoherent narrative/plotline. Then I tried mending it with the first rewrite, and realized I half-assed it, leading to the second current rewrite. That was excruciatingly painful to do.

But I feel it was worth it. It gave me back my confidence as a writer.

The upcoming public update consists of the Childhood Arc (that I am now going to refer to as the Prologue) that sets the foundation up for the rest of the story with planted seeds that will come explosively into play in the future. Many of the events in the future will stem from the seeds here, and itll be fun watching readers find them.

This single fucking section (which was planned to be splattered all throughout the game in the previous versions) has finally been conquered. All the hinting nods, seeds, and “back-of-the-scenes” movements made by characters throughout the world in KaE are done HERE in the Prologue. The world and characters are at last firmly established. You get a hint of the brutality if you go one route, you get a hint of the politics and logistics if you go the other. Much of the worldbuilding is done far more naturally and smoothly. I am satisfied at last.

But again, and I must reiterate; this is the prologue and it is over 160k words. That’s a LONG FUCKING PROLOGUE LMFAO

Okay, time to be technical.

With the command lines, meaning plus the words on the choices themselves for example, it is 162,053 words of content for the stuff you actually play.

Without the command lines, we have 147,598 words of content.

If I include the Relationships tab and all the other lines of code i made for our stat descriptions?

With this new arc we’re heading into, like ive said multiple times, is when we finally take active stage in the story. I am so freaking excited to begin this with yall!

But the childhood stuff had to be done. The “boring” part is finally over with this. Ihate to call it boring since i put so much heart into it, but im a realist and understand some folks may just wanna get to the cool stuff. Never ever shall i make the mistake of doing baby reincarnation and/or making us the royal heir cause I am not a good enough writer to pull it off.

But forget that. Right now, Im here to tell you the cool stuff is now coming.

After the public is out, i will focus on the Upbringing Routes one at a time.

Squire/Prince/Princess.

Squire will be started and worked on first until completion because it is a unisex route, and also because its probably the most traditionally “fun” of the routes. In it, we go to the north with our father and his retinue to quell unrest with the wild tribes and our people, until inevitably it devolves into total war in the north. There, we begin our martial journey and showcase the skills that’ll one day force the world to submit to our prowess.

But for now, we’re still young and have much to learn. Our enemies will never have a better chance to kill us… and yet theyll still fail. Or at least, YOU have to make sure they fail!

The Prince/Princess Routes on the other hand, will be more of a political thriller as the ducal families of the south try to one up one another and take power, influence, and land from one another. We’ll work with our mother to ensure civil war doesnt happen while pops is up in the north.

Alright, thats enough of that lol
