diallos hoslow is the youngest son in a family of lords. his older brother, juno, was known for "achievements that made him seem out of reach. And so the younger aspired to be like the older". diallos' himself was described as "all talk, no trousers. His inability to commit to action was such that Juno inherited the Hoslow legacy without resistance, granting him the freedom to shower his little brother with adoration". house hoslow is a tale "told in blood" and the weapon passed down from heir to heir was a blood-drawing whip fashioned to resemble flower petals.
diallos first loses his beloved servant lanya and swears not to let her death be in vain. after being flattered by the inhabitants of the volcano manor, who seemingly orchestrated lanya's death, diallos joins in the hopes of making a name for himself. he reacts quite coldly toward lanya after this, saying, "Of course, my heart weeps for Lanya. That unfortunate incident was a cruel twist of fate indeed. But succumbing to the pain and sadness caused won't make me a champion, will it. Lanya knows this, I'm certain. Fate has laid hard roads for us both." this makes it fairly clear that diallos now views the loss of his "tomboy" friend and companion as a stepping stone toward his own bright future.
soon, however, he realizes that he's both not cut out for the bloodshed required to be a recusant and that he's behaved a fool. all of his killing was for naught and his attempt to fold himself into the comradery of the volcano manor was in vain, as they only view his participation as a mean to their ends. his own dreams of greatness go unfulfilled.
in the end, after a late update to the game (presumably when the contents of the dlc were decided), diallos moves to jarburg, tending to the little, defenseless jars in the hopes of making something of himself simply by being kind. this fulfills him, but he dies defending the jars from poachers and leaves behind a numan's rune, identifying him as "of the same stock as Queen Marika herself".
miquella is the youngest son of the demi-gods. his eldest brother, godwyn, was known for achievements that made him seem out of reach (the greatest of which was not just defeating the dragons that stormed leyndel but befriending them after), earning him the moniker "godwyn the golden". miquella himself was cursed with eternal nascency, doomed to be a child forever, limiting his attempts to achieve greatness. but a statue in the haligtree suggests that godwyn showered miquella with adoration. miquella's blood produced flowers.
miquella took up many projects in the hopes of curing his beloved twin sister malenia of her curse of rot, but she falls into a deep, death-like sleep after her battle against their half-brother radahn ends in a stalemate. miquella joins the golden order in the hopes of finding a means of treating malenia's rot but left when he discovered that there was no cure for his sister's malady in the golden order's beliefs.
miquella eventually returns to the haligtree, where he tends to those forsaken by the golden order. the most downtrodden and despised flock to him and he cares for them the best he can. but its not enough, and soon he seeks to trace his mother's footsteps to make himself a god and right the pain of the world. truly, he is of the same stock as his mother, in the end.
