danny is nonbinary in a secret and mysterious manner. he is a man but also if he woke up tomorrow and was a woman it wouldn’t really make much difference to him, he could be the same gender he is now presenting as a man or woman if you can dig it… sort of the principal difference being he’s not introspective like that and he wants to have sex with gay men and in order to do this it is imperative to be a man so it’s more sexuality-defined than actual internal experience defined. he’s really jealous of q in a bottom dysphoria manner but it’s like gender vs straight sex trauma who knows…? ummm ultimately like has a really strong internal sense of having changed drastically like he’s like “i’m basically unrecognizable and everyone can tell” when it’s like. ok your hair is slightly longer. and that he goes by danny which is his name bc it is the girl version of his name but it isn’t to anyone else… and also he holds himself to all stricter religious ritual obligations regardless of the associated gender. also he WAS a trans girl briefly in an identity theft capacity yay. :•) hope that was elucidating #mylongcomplicatedanswer

@parkayquarts yess ok so when he was in his crazy 18 months of traveling the country… i want to preface w that this is not really entirely real life it’s danny’s delusional and fugue understanding of the events but it’s not like there’s a “what really happened” that can be known… but anyway so one of the things he did during that time is that he was a porter at the hotel part of a casino and one of his jobs was to deliver messages to guests, but not wanting anyone to be upset, he elected to modify messages that contained bad news. eventually someone he delivers false good news to finds out and goes looking for him to fight him. he swaps clothes with an attendant named kate to hide, but instead of just disguising danny it makes the guy looking for him think that kate is danny and while running falls down a flight of stairs and danny assumes she’s died. i guess worth mentioning now is that the roadtrip is because danny believes that, because of their similar names and ages, the angel of death’s emissary took his friend dana instead of him, since he died of lung cancer (asbestos in apartment) and did not smoke and danny does. (Chagigah 4b: The Angel of Death said to his agent: Go and bring me, i.e., kill, Miriam the raiser, i.e., braider, of women’s hair. He went, but instead brought him Miriam, the raiser of babies. The Angel of Death said to him: I told you to bring Miriam, the raiser of women’s hair. His agent said to him: If so, return her to life. He said to him: Since you have already brought her, let her be counted toward the number of deceased people. [in this case though miriam the braider gets to live but danny thinks he will be coming to fix it instead]) so obviously someone dressed as danny seeming to die didn’t do much to weaken this belief. so after that he left! and then he had like all the stuff that was in her pockets and from that found out that she was going to go farmhand after this job so he went and did that as kate until she had to leave there bc the horses convinced her to let then out… :•)
