The Hunter and the Wolf | Huntsman & Red
The silence that fell between them wasnât one that he liked. Silence had always meant that something bad was going to happen to him in the past and right then he had enough of his ill fortune for one night. He just wanted to rest and get something in his stomach. But first he would need to put a bit more distance between Regina and the pack before he did that. He also wanted to check up on the village. If there was something that the Huntsman could do for them then he wanted to do it. He knew they might not accept his help but at the very least he could try.
He watched curiously as she knelt down at the box and gently picked up his heart. Watching her now she seemed like a different person. She wasnât the same woman that had been accusing him of hurting all of those people. In fact he could detect a sense of compassion. It was similar to what he had seen in Snow and yet it seemed a little different than even that. What was different the Huntsman didnât know but he wanted to find out. Unfortunately he wouldnât be able to do that with his plan. Even so, he continued to watch her careful as he tried to figure out what her plan was. He had never seen someone handle his heart so carefully. Regina always seemed to handle it roughly and usually he had small spikes of pain going through his chest before she truly began to squeeze. But no pain came to him as the she-wolf handle it.
When the werewolf pressed his heart to his chest he was even more surprised. He had wanted his heart back, more than anything he had wanted it back, but he never thought she would give it back to him. If she had his heart then she could control him like Regina had and he thought that she would do that to make sure he didnât go off to Regina to tell her about Snow White. It seemed his assumption had been wrong. Glancing down at his heart and then back up at her, the Huntsman gently placed his hands over hers as he pull her own hands closer to his chest. Being able to have his heart back, being able to feel something again, it was the only he had wanted during the cruel months of serving Regina.
"Then our purpose is one," he said as he looked into her green eyes. "Together we will save Snow White." And with that he pushed her hands towards his chest and ultimately pushed his heart back into its proper place. Pain shot through him but it wasnât anything new to him. He released a few grunts of pain and backed away from her as he doubled over a little while clutching at the spot his heart had gone into him. The Huntsman panted a little as the pain subsided and he began to feel a sense of joy. He was actually feeling joy! He didnât have to try and remember how that felt anymore. He could actually feel it now.
"Thank yoo," he said as he straightened and nodded at her with a faint smile.
It was an odd feeling; and indeed Red did gasp. Giving someone their heart back was quite the experience â but then knowing that they were feeling pain, even in such a moment that must have made them happy --- well, Red couldn't imagine what he was going through. She knew that she had never been without her heart, or had it taken or given back. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Pulling her hands away when his heart was back in his body and he jolted away from her gasping. Red moved her hands to her sides and readjusted her cloak and kept her weaponry well concealed. She had her sword and her bow and arrows, but neither of them she would intend on using against the Huntsman. As he had said; their purpose was one and the same. They would save Snow. âYou're welcome,â She smiled softly â it wasn't a smile that she could remember using before. It was almost timid. There was something that she had to do throughout all this. That was not to let her head go off and to just follow her heart. She could easily get herself into trouble if she did that. She didn't know this Huntsman and although they both had the same goal and both knew, and to a degree loved Snow, she had to be careful. He was still the Queen's Huntsman.
âI think,â She turned to look around the cliff and the view ahead of them. They were certainly far away from where she thought of, but it wasn't far away. A day's walk if that, just as long as she could get them there in a quicker route than the wolf pack and the Queen, that was what was important. âI know where we can find Snow.â The last time she had met Snow she had mentioned about an Inn in King Midas' realm. Whilst Snow had remained known to the people as a bandit, she had also learned how to conceal her identity and was staying there for safety. Red moved her hand to the box that had once held his heart and began to put it in with her belongings that she kept together in a secure blanket. They could use that to fool the Queen. But Red wasn't sure Regina would be so easily fooled. Just because she managed to get the box away from her, didn't mean that she wouldn't be able to tell there was nothing inside. âHow are you travelling on foot?â

Emma woke up with a start that morning, her heart hammering in her chest. She was hesitant at first, not liking the unsettling feeling in the pits of her stomach. Slowly she threw her legs over the edge of the bed and padded forward, approaching the window. Pushing aside the curtain, she peered out, taking in the foggy environment. âNoâŚ,â she breathed out, all too knowing. Hastily she stepped out of the room and hurried down the stairs, ignoring Ruby at first.      Crouching before the TV, she flicked it on, sparing a glance toward the clock to check the time. The morning news appeared on the screen, though the date read as â April 6th â. Last she checked, April 6th was yesterday. Rising to her feet, Emma turned to face the waitress, making a face of clear confusion. âWhat the hell?â She breathed out, clapping her hands on her thighs. âThink theyâre playing re-runs in hopes we wonât notice it?â It was clear she was trying to make a joke out of it, but she had no idea how well she was pulling it off.      Maybe she was just over-thinking things. She had just woken up from a bad nightmare and she was just lucky she did not wake up screaming. Her night terrors were far and few in between, but they did happen. Maybe she was just still shaken up, that had to be it, right?Â
âHmm?â Ruby flipped through the pages of the paper with genuine interest. Only, there was nothing eyecatching and so she scrunched up her nose and folded it over and placed it on her lap. Moving her arm against the back of the sofa, she tilted her head and looked at the blonde. âDunno,â She tilted her head. âTV guides over here,â The brunette placed her feet back on the floor and began to reach over to where the magazine for the television listings were. âWhat re-runs anyway, nothing interesting is ever on this early.â Not that Ruby knew. Most of the time by now she would be working away at the diner feeling like her grandmother agreed with child labour. Not that she would call herself a child; but Granny might have. Tilting her head, her long hair, wavy from not being brushed yet, fell over her face as she scrunched up her face and blew the red and brown streaks from her eyes. âWhat's up, Em? Still half asleep?â

The Hunter and the Wolf | Huntsman & Red
The Huntsman raised a brow at her as her face seemed to overcome with concern. From all the rumors and reports he had heard of Snow White he hadnât heard any that mentioned Snow being friends with a werewolf. That was probably for the best. If there had been anything about a werewolf then that might have changed Reginaâs plans. Then that would mean he probably wouldnât have  the chance to get his heart back or to get away from the evil queen.
"So you know her too. Ah was able tâspare Snowâs life once, but this time thâqueen will not be so easily thwarted." She seemed more determined than ever to see this plan through. He could understand why too. The pack was more than willing to do what she wanted as long as she held up to her end of the deal. Knowing Regina he doubted that she would do that. One way or another she would see to it that she didnât lose everything but still had control over the pack. What Regina had in mind the Huntsman had no idea but whatever it was he could only think that it would lead to the packâs destruction.Â
And the only way of stopping that was to warn Snow White. âYoo must finâ Snow anâ warn her. She is not safe. No matter how well hidden.â Everything he had done for her would then be for nothing. Sacrificing himself so she could live and having to deal with not feeling anything but pain. He just wished that he could help the she-wolf with protecting Snow. But Regina most likely wanted him dead and would have the pack looking for him. The best thing for him was to go into hiding until everything calmed down. It was what he had wanted for awhile after all. He had wanted to go back into the forest and live his quiet life like he had before taking that job.Â
"Thâwolves are on thâhunt. Theyâll kill everyone in their path if nothinâ is done tâstop them." Not that he needed to tell her that. He guessed she had spent at least some time with the pack and would know how they hunt. Together the pack could hunt down anything and that meant that Snow White wasnât safe.Â
So that was how Snow had gotten away from the Evil Queen the first time around? The Huntsman saved her life â and in return more or less gave up his own? Not only that, but his heart. Which was beating there in that box and Red could only imagine what it must have been like standing there, talking to her, with his heart right there. Well, actually, no she couldn't â because apparently without his heart the Huntsman couldn't feel anything. {Yoo must fin' Snow an' warn her. She is not safe. No matter how well hidden.} But, it had been a long time since Red had last seen Snow. At least a couple of weeks â she joined Snow every month, mostly during wolfstime. It got Red away from the village and the angry mobs, and at the same time it gave her the time to visit Snow in the forest and see how she was doing. Normally informing her about what was going on in the castle and Prince David's upcoming wedding. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Only, Red knew the Huntsman was right. The wolves knew how to hunt â they would get to Snow in a heartbeat, as fast as Red could --- having the same abilities. Only, they didn't have the skills that Red had and the knowledge. She knew where Snow most likely would be. And, after all, when the shewolf wanted something, she didn't give up until she had it.
There was only one thing that she could do now before she left on her mission to save her best friend. She moved down towards the box that held the Huntsman's heart and tenderly took out the organ, scared that if she dropped it or handled it roughly she would cause him pain. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â âAnd what of your heart?â Gosh, it felt weird to hold his heart in her hands. She had never done anything so personal to anyone before. To literally be able to say you held someone's heart in your hands, it sounded almost romantic â but she threw that from her mind. The whole reason that the Huntsman's heart wasn't in his body wasn't a romantic thing at all. Turning to him, she moved his heart towards his chest and whispered whilst looking up at him, âWill it not serve a better purpose when reunited with its proper owner?â Red kept her hands against his chest, his heart held between her palms as she looked at him, waiting for indication to assist â or just permission to go ahead and push the organ where it belonged. With the Huntsman --- and not with the Queen.

AU IDEA: a family is stuck in a house, surrounded by fog, living the same day over and over again, and they cannot leave the house... But they don't even realize this, except for PERSON A ... And no matter how many times PERSON A has explained this, they don't believe it, and they never remember because as soon as they go to bed, everything resets... But PERSON A doesn't reset...
Moving the curtain back Ruby looked outside at the town.
Or what should have been the town. It didn't seem like she was going to be leaving anytime soon, that was for sure. She sighed and pressed her forehead into the glass of the window before dropping the net curtain back over the glass and looked over her shoulder.
âWas it this foggy when you got up?â The brunette questioned as she turned around properly and made her way over to the sofa and dropped down to get comfortable. Hopefully this meant she wouldn't have to take her shift at the diner. No one in their right mind were going to go out in that. Although if she was driven around the bend by Granny then nothing said that Ruby wouldn't have tried.
Meh, picking up the newspaper that was lying on the table, she moved her feet and made the table into a footstool and opened the parchment over her legs and looked over the daily events --- however, she was only really paying attention to the pictures. âSo much for painting the town red.â

The Hunter and the Wolf | Huntsman & Red
As he stood up he brushed any snow that remained on his clothes. He wished he had something else to wear than the black leather and red cape. Like everything else they were given to him by Regina after his heart was taken. They might have been the best in the kingdom and they kept him warmer than anything the Huntsman had been wearing before he lived at the castle but he never liked them. It always felt like wearing them was just another way that Regina was controlling him.
He looked up from what he had been doing when she pointed out that he had defended her before she ran off with his heart. Given his reputation, before and after he started working for Regina, he knew that it must have been a little surprising. But the truth was he had a great deal of compassion. Before he only showed it towards animals but he had begun to learn how to show it for people as well. He did try it on Regina a few times with the hope that he could possibly get his heart back and be free but that never happened. There was also the fact that the Huntsman had thought she was just a wolf when she first attacked Regina. They had most likely walked through a wolf packs territory and normal wolves werenât afraid of approaching werewolves like they were people. It was only after seeing the packâs reaction to her and then noticing how she moved did he realize that she was a werewolf. Even then he would have helped her. He had been raised by werewolves and he still viewed them as his family. The pack might not have been fond of him but he wasnât going to ignore one that was in danger.
"Because it was thâright thinâ tâdo," he said, thinking that was the best way to explain his actions. "Anâ thâqueen could not then stop me."Â It was the truth regardless of how vague it was. He really didnât have the desire to go into what he was like. People already judged him without getting to know him and he had learned early on that it wasnât easy to change the minds of others. Most people didnât want their minds to be changed and only recent actions would get them to even consider changing it. With having worked for Regina and doing horrible things to people he didnât think anyone would do that to him.
Remembering that she-wolf had mentioned the village he had raided a few nights ago he took a small step towards as he said, âHer plan is grim, anâ Ah fear there is no one who can stand in her way.â She seemed to be trustworthy as she had been brave enough to attack Regina. And if she wanted to help the village and was close to them then she was possibly his only way to redeem himself for his actions. He didnât want to take their silver and had even tried his best to leave them some so they could get through the winter. But Regina, as usual, had stopped him from doing that. The Huntsman wanted to help them as much as he could, heart or no heart. âThâqueenâs target was never thâvillage. Itâs Snow White. Thâsilver mines are just a means tâan end.â It was the only way that Regina could get the pack to work with her after all.
Her green eyes remained on the heart in the box. It was something she wasn't expecting; Snow had never mentioned the Huntsman that had saved her life. Red knew that she was on the run and in exile. It was hard not to know that when you spent the good part of a year or so running from the Queen's guard to keep safe. The princess had been hiding in her family's chicken coop when Red had found her in the first place. Then they went off to defend not only Snow but herself; to save herself from being discovered as a werewolf. She had gone as far as to have killed her own mother to defend Snow. Now the pack that she had dishonoured were in trouble and Red couldn't help them. They most likely would kill her, turn on one of their own â an eye for an eye, or such. It made Red's blood boil and made her feel guilty. Â Â Â Â Â Not that it would have been the first time that she would have felt guilty. {Th'queen's target was never th'village. It's Snow White. Th'silver mines are just a means t'an end.} She felt her breath catch in her throat. Her eyes searched the Huntsman's face all over again. They stole the silver in the mines to gain control of Snow White. The Queen was going to use the wolves to find Snow and kill her? She couldn't think straight, she felt horrible â like she was partly to blame. This was her mother's pack, after all.
âOh no, poor Snow...â Her best friend. The girl who showed her that it was alright to be who she was. Her grandmother wanted her to be human, to hide and conceal the wolf. Her mother wanted her to be a wolf and to stop feeling like a human --- Snow, Snow showed her it was okay to be both. She wouldn't be there and who she was right then if it wasn't for Snow White. A protective streak had come over Red when it came to Snow, and already she felt her hands tightening against her red cloak. She needed to do what she could to save Snow â to defend her from the Queen. She didn't trust Regina, and Red was sure she never would. They needed to defeat her; they needed to save Snow.

              âCareful you don't slip,â
The waitress pointed towards one of the booths in the diner, showing there was a spill of coffee over the tiles on the floor. Ruby grabbed a mop from the corner behind the counter. âI'll be with you in a sec,â Why did Granny have to give the other waitress the morning off --- Ruby felt like she was the only one in.
New Worlds - 1x01
"Who did this?"
Erin stood up shakily. âThanks.â Wincing, she glanced at the other girl. âYeah, the diner sounds good.â She swayed a little as a wave of dizziness overcame her, and she grabbed the girlâs arm. âWhoa, sorry.â I didnât hit my head that hard, did I?
âHey, no worries;â The brunette smiled as she looked towards Erin. Looks like she hit her head harder than she thought. Ruby didn't really have any first aid experience, but maybe Granny or someone back at the diner had some ideas. Maybe a drink of water was all she needed though. âCome on,â Ruby moved her arm around Erin's to give her a little support and began to head back to the diner.
Emma gave Ruby a look, leaning back in her chair.
âYou know, itâd be a lot easier to make up with Granny if you didnât run over here every time you fought.â
But she really didnât mind. She enjoyed Rubyâs company, and she had helped out a lot the last time. âThereâs not much going on right now, but youâre welcome to hang out.â
The shewolf's lips turned from a forced smile into a frown. She rolled her green eyes and groaned underneath her breath, she knew that Emma was right --- but Ruby just didn't want to say that. Emma had seen Ruby at her most vulnerable under the curse, she had seen Ruby when she thought she wasn't good enough to do other things. Even the things she appeared good at, she took the compliments and threw them back.
âMaybe I'm hoping leaving her to stew will make her punishment less severe?â Ruby knew that the punishments would only be something like work the Saturday late shift or Sunday early shift, ruining her weekend --- it wasn't like the old woman could ground her anymore. âHang out,â Her head snapped up and a smile crossed her lips, not forced, completely genuine. Nodding her head she looked around the Sheriff's station. âHanging out I can do.â âYou must be bored outta your brain then,â The wolf replied as she moved her hands to her hips and wondered what it was like to be sheriff and have nothing to do. It was like that in Storybrooke she supposed. Apart from the Evil Queens, adventures to other worlds, loss of memories, and everything else --- little crimes didn't seem to happen.

The Hunter and the Wolf | Huntsman & Red
He hated that he couldnât read what state her emotions were in. He was never good at doing that anyways but it would have helped him a little right then. The only thing he could pick up on was that she was hostile and she had made that quite clear as to why. Another thing that the Huntsman picked up on was where her eyes had darted when he mentioned where she had put the box. If that wasnât a sign that his heart was close by then he didnât know what was. He was more than thankful for that small hint as it meant that there was every chance of him getting his heart back right at that moment.Â
He stayed quiet as she went on to talk about her views on Reginaâs plan. Upon hearing her say âyour plansâ his jaw clenched as the hand resting on the hilt of his sword tightened. If he had his way then he wouldnât have any part in this plan. But because of his knowledge on the pack and the fact that he had been controlled by Regina he had no choice. He wanted to tell her that too but it seemed pointless right then. She believed that he was just a puppet to do Reginaâs dirty work, just like everyone else. It didnât help that Huntsman had trouble getting emotions through so people knew that doing such things hurt him just as much as it did them. Fortunately he was used to it by now. People had hated him before he worked for Regina and they just continue to do so.Â
It canâ feed anyone. Or that was what the Huntsman wanted to say but the woman kept on talking without giving him the chance to speak. And he was quite aware that they were starving. It was because of him that they were after all. He had taken all of their silver to make the arrows that were currently within his quiver and it was his doing that got Regina the mines. His eyes looked away from her for a moment when she asked him how he could sleep night. Honestly he had trouble with that. Between being Reginaâs play thing and doing such things due to her orders made it hard for him to sleep. Most of his nights he woke up at least once during the night because of nightmares. That wasnât something he saw ending any time soon. But he could try and make her understand that he had no choice but to follow Reginaâs orders.
"Thâanswer is in thâbox yoo now carry."
For a second he thought that she wasnât going to believe him and look but soon enough she vanished from his sight for a moment and reappeared with the box in her hands. He kept his eyes on her as she opened the box and waited for her reaction. Even in the dim light of the winter moon he could tell that she was surprised by what she found inside of it. âItâsâŚA heart.â
"Itâs mah heart,â the Huntsman said as he took a step closer to the cliff that she-wolf stood on. Now that she had her sword down and was beginning to understand that he meant her no harm did he think it was about time for him to approach her. âThâqueen controlled it until yoo knocked it away from her. She stole it from me as punishment fer lettinâ Snow White live.â Taking another chance, he began to climb up the small cliff face. She very well could attack him and he would either fall to his death or worse (what worse was he hadnât the foggest but he knew that worse could happen) with this plan but he pushed that to the back of his mind. He wanted to show her that he was on her side, heart or no heart, and that he didnât want to harm her.Â
"Mah will has not been mah own since that day," he said once he reached the top of the cliff and was standing in front of her.
                 {The answer is in t'box yoo now carry.}
The brunette looked towards where she hid the box and rushed towards it, pulling it up into her grasp and flipped the lid open. What was inside was something she didn't expect. Why would she have expected there to be a heart in the box? âIt's... a heart.â She may have stuttered but Red was surprised â shocked â she just didn't expect there to be a heart there. His heart? So the heart belonged to the Huntsman â and without it he didn't have free will, the Queen controlled him and his actions? And here she was saying that he was part of her plans with his own free will and wanted to do that. It was a horrible thing to do, but to have no control over it? That was terrible. Red lifted her head. She just couldn't hold the box any more, placing it on the ground at the edge of the cliff, her green eyes focused on the beating organ, glistening and glowing in red. All of his free will, the ability to do what he wanted â to feel â right there. Her eyes turned to the Huntsman who was climbing, impressively, up the side of the cliff, she just tried to stay focused. He had mentioned someone though... Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Snow White. Still, she brushed that from her mind, something was off about that. Without his heart, he said that he didn't have free will â that he couldn't do what he wanted to do. But that made little sense to the she-wolf. She stayed where she was, standing across from the Huntsman when he found his feet; but also made it known that she wasn't going to let him run off with his heart, not when she still had her doubts. Snow White was her best friend and she couldn't let anything happen to her.
âBut you defended me when I attacked the Queen.â It was something that made her curious. Why would he defend her, the wolf that attacked the Evil Queen, who was his mistress. She would have been performing treason, shouldn't the Huntsman have killed her on order, not save her from Adair and let her escape?
