Hot take. I don't care that the other characters were "side lined" We have to establish what being "side lined" means. To me it's to say that they weren't given the narrative time or spot light by the finale. And if that's the case than yes they were, but I AGREE with the decision TO side line them. The question is, what would giving focusing on them add to the overall narrative the finale was trying to tell? We got reactions from Gangle about how she was still harmed by Jax's decisions, Ragatha's story arc was wrapped up right before Pomni went to talk to Jax. Their stories were largely complete and resolved. People keep saying they wanted to see more of those characters and I grant them that I would have enjoyed that too, but what I haven't heard described is what ROLE those characters should have played in the STORY that Gooseworx was presenting. I think largely, if we had gotten more Gangle, Zooble, Kinger, and Ragatha in the finale episode, the story would end up sufferring because it would be split between trying to wrap up the thematic points of loneliness, self isolation, and self hatred, that Jax, Pomni, and Caine carry the weight of in the story, with showing side stories of the rest of the cast, who have largely had their stories told and completed. I understand the desire to see more of your favorite blorbo's, I REALLY do. But I don't think the story being told, the narrative at the heart of the show, should suffer because people think that they're favorite should have more screen time.

"Zooble was talking to Jax and when he asked about their "body issues" they replied by saying that they came to the realization that they didn't mind their body changing." And then in Episode 8 their torture scene was them drowning in all their spare parts, indicating that them "realizing they didn't mind their body changing" was still an unfixed issue. "We should have been able to see more of Gangle and Zooble's struggles because that's what's this show about." It's not. You said it yourself that the main theme of the show was "finding value in an mundane world" and not allowing other people to feel lonely. Sure Gangle and Zooble added to the theme, but to say that their struggles is what the show "was about" those two characters in particular. No. It isn't. "Ragatha and Pomni apparently made up behind the scenes. They don't look like friends. Because Pomni is occupied with Jax." They made up on screen. During the finale. And given the fact that Jax had just abstracted, that was her main focus. But this didn't mean that she didn't make up with Ragatha. Could they have done more? Maybe. But to act like it was forgotten or "happened off screen" is just a lie. "I didn't like Jax's abstraction because it wanted us to feel empathy towards him which is bullshit. He drove two people to suicide and he was abusive, and i liked his character because of what he represented and his role within the story, but when the finale dropped and we were made to feel empathy and hope for a redemption for him it just rubbed me the wrong way. His choice of abstracting instead of facing the consequences should've hit harder than it did." Then you missed the entire point of the finale. Jax is what's called in the business, a "cautionary tale" someone who's destructive behavior is both internal and external. The show wasn't trying to """"make"""" you do anything. It was acknowledge the fact that Jax herself was equally a victim of Jax's own abuse. If you think that was emotionally manipulative, then fine. But at no point did the show even ATTEMPT to redeem her. Pomni never said "I forgive you". Hell her final words to Jax was to basically call her an idiot. "You should've just talked to me". Gangle afterwards is not treated as a villain for not forgiving Jax. If that didn't hit for you that's fine, but your emotional response to the show does not necessarily mean that there is a flaw within it's text. "I'm glad you liked all the episodes, but these are valid criticisims, you can choose to ignore them which is completley valid but you can't rly argue that there aren't flaws cuz i'm not the only one who noticed these things." Appeals to the majority aren't really an argument. 30 people can be wrong and 1 person can be right. If I "can't rly argue that there aren't flaws" than how come I have been? The set up of the show is that the first episode 1-6 set up who these characters are, and their respective problems, it gives them small episode vignettes to show their miniature arc and show how they each have the same fundamental problem of being lonely and feeling unloved. The the back half episode 7-9 treats the whole cast as one entity as it tries to make it's thesis (and anti-thesis statements) about loneliness love and respect. At NO POINT has the show EVER promised that each character was going to get equal amounts of screen time or that every single one was going to be more than what they are. Sure you can argue that maybe Ragatha could've been more 3 dimensional, I think that would've made a worse show as Ragatha's narrative does not hold the same thematic weight as Jax or Pomni, her problems of loneliness do not come armed with a personal philosophy about humanity and and personal connect that Jax and Pomni does. To elevate her to the same level would have made a messier theme to the show. But to sit here, and argue, to me, that Ragatha is somehow a FLAT character or an UNRESOLVED character. That is simply false. Same with Gangle, same with Zooble. They are complex SIDE characters and are treated as such. And no, the show does not "revolve around the interelationships" it revolves around it's THEME. The interrelationships support the theme, but they are not, in it of itself, the THEME, and must take a back seat to the thematic weight of the show. This is how storytelling works.
