the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

Okay so this might be a controversial opinion (not sure tho I haven't many people talk about it so IT CAN VERY MUCH BE COMMON) but I think what Netflix did to June and Iroh was a change for the better. I've seen people say that it's sexist that "they made her simp for him" but I see this more as turning the least funny joke in the og to something funny.
We went from "old man likes a younger woman and harraseses her LAUGH FUNNY" (which especially makes me cringe as I have a family member just like that so I've seen enough of that bullshit for a life time)
And now we have: Woman who just likes old men, old man who's like "nice I can still get it đđ" (Like look at his expression, he doesn't look uncomfortable to me) and some cringe ass teenager who wants to die witnessing it. Like. Maybe it's just that I grew up on the internet and my sense of humor is very broken but- I do find it funny. Especially Zuko's reaction.
Like cmon. That's funny.
Also she wasn't really simping for him tbh, just made two comments on how he's hot and walked away. Overall from all changes that tried to make ATLA "less problematic" THIS ONE IS GOOD BEACUSE YES THE OG VERSION SUCKED. There's a lot of things NATLA did wrong but let's reconize the thing they did good.
you know, regardless of how else one might view their relationships, potential or otherwise, I think that sokka and zuko are exceptionally and casually physically affectionate. they're up in each other's space, literally sitting on each other, playing with each other's hair, eating off each other's plates, getting into play scuffles and throwing each other around. they're not even paying attention 90% of the time they do it, they're not trying to be intentionally provocative at all. it's just that zuko is starved for physical contact and sokka gives it so freely without a second thought that they end up naturally gravitating into it.

the thing about zukka is that sokka being into zuko is like not at all out of character for him. sokka's type is like someone who is strong and who has a deep and unyielding sense of duty and pride for their culture and love for their people and post-redemption arc thats basically zuko's whole thing. and zuko being into sokka is not out of character because sokkaâs like the rizzmaster 8000
Your honour I present to you further evidence that he has an agreement with Mai owing to the need for the firelord to produce an heir and he has a very committed relationship with our boy Sokka
The avatar headcanon that I hold nearest and dearest to my heart is the belief that the fire nation slang Aang learned from Kuzon was specifically Gay slang that Kuzon said was normal slang as a joke (this was of course back when the fire nation was still cool with gay ppl). But a hundred years later, now that being gay in the fire nation is illegal, the meanings have evolved to be really offensive, so when they first get to the Fire Nation, Aang is unknowingly throwing out slurs left and right.
"flaming" -> flaming/camp/slay (original gay slang meaning) -> camp(derogatory)/over-the-top/extra (meaning after 100 years of homophobia)
"Hotman" -> Attractive gay man/man that the speaker, as a gay person, finds attractive (original gay slang meaning) -> faggot (meaning after 100 years of homophobia)
"Flameo" -> DTF/gay sex ("flameo hotman" = propositioning someone for gay sex) (original gay slang meaning) -> fuck but specifically kinky or "degenerate" non-socially-acceptable sex (meaning after 100 years of homophobia)
So when Aang is spending his first day in the fire nation calling everyone "hotman" and all the fire nation ppl look at him confused and vaguely offended I can only guess that they assumed he was a middle schooler making prolific use of the new slur he just learned and doesn't yet actually know the meaning of and they can either get pissed and have to explain why, or they can keep walking and let him be someone else's problem.
And when Zuko joins the Gaang all he can think is "wow I didn't think the avatar would have such a dirty mouth" because he's always shouting "Flameo!" (Meaning: "fuck yeah!") when he's excited. And he calls Zuko "Sifu Hotman" (meaning: Master Faggot) and Zuko feels like he can't get mad because he tried to capture Aang SO many times so he pretty much deserves it, he's just not sure how Aang knows.

there is a zukaang revolution happening on twitter rn and itâs genuinely wild to see. Mainstream fandom meme accounts like Anime Daily are posting zukaang memes. This wouldâve been unfathomable two months ago
Hi everyone, itâs been so long since Iâve last written something. But Iâve decided to change it up as Iâve been having an obsession with the new leaks of Avatar the Last Airbender movie coming out. So I decided to come up with a story for it.
Note: it doesnât follow the plot but will eventually. Some of the characters might be out of character at times. And I decided to make the main character in this Miralyn Vesper, who will be overpowered. I wanted to try this⌠itâs not proofreadâŚ
The wind was wrong.
It didnât howl or rushâit pressed. Heavy. Waiting.
High above a jagged stretch of cliffs, Appaâs fur rippled uneasily as he circled. On his back, Aang leaned forward, eyes scanning the ground below.
âI feel it too,â he murmured.
Beside him, Katara tightened her grip on her waterskin. âItâs like⌠everythingâs holding its breath.â
âThatâs not creepy at all,â Sokka muttered. âDefinitely normal sky vibes.â
A low rumble cut through the air.
Thenâsilence.
Even Toph Beifong stilled.
ââŚSomethingâs off,â she said quietly. âThe groundâs⌠confused.â
Aangâs gaze sharpened. âAppa, down.â
â
Below them, the battlefield was already set.
A ring of armored fightersâmercenaries by the look of themâstood spread out across the cracked earth. Their stances were tense, coordinated. Firebenders, earthbenders, even a waterbender or two.
And at the center of it allâŚ
âŚstood one girl.
Still. Silent. Alone.
Miralyn Vesper.
Her dark hair hung loose around her shoulders, barely moving despite the charged air. Her expression was unreadableâcalm in a way that didnât belong on a battlefield.
âYouâre surrounded!â one of the men shouted, though his voice wavered. âThereâs nowhere left to run!â
She didnât respond.
Didnât move.
Didnât even look at him.
Up above, Appa dipped lower, the group watching closely.
âOkay,â Sokka whispered, âeither sheâs incredibly brave⌠or incredibly bad at situational awareness.â
Katara shook her head slowly. âNo⌠look at them.â
They werenât advancing.
They were waiting.
Afraid.
Tophâs brow furrowed. âTheyâre the ones cornered,â she said.
Aangâs eyes widened slightly.
âWhat⌠is she?â
â
âLast chance!â another attacker barked, tryingâand failingâto sound confident. âSurrender!â
Miralyn blinked.
Slowly⌠she lifted her gaze.
The moment her eyes met theirsâ
âthe world shifted.
The first move came from the attackers.
Fire roared to life, spiraling forward in a coordinated strike. At the same time, earth cracked upward, jagged stone spearing toward her from below. Water surged from skins, snapping into whips. Air bent violently, pressure slamming inward from all sides.
A perfect, overwhelming assault.
Aang leaned forward sharply. âWe have to helpâ!â
He never finished the sentence.
Because the attack⌠stopped.
Not slowed.
Not deflected.
Stopped.
Mid-air.
Flames hung frozen, flickering without heat. Water curved like glass, suspended inches from impact. Stone halted mid-surge, cracked edges trembling but unmoving. Even the airâvisible in swirling distortionsâceased its motion.
Silence fell again.
Deeper this time.
Sokka blinked. âOkay. I take it back. Thatâs not normal.â
Katara stared, breath caught. âShe didnât even moveâŚâ
ââŚYouâre the one theyâve been talking about,â he said.
Not a question.
A statement.
Miralynâs expression didnât change.
âAnd youâre late,â she replied quietly.
For the first timeâ Zuko smirked.
Aang felt something twist in his chest.
Not fear.
Not exactly.
Something else.
Because the way Zuko looked at herâ wasnât just as an enemy.
And the way she looked backâ wasnât indifference.
Not entirely.
The air shifted again, subtle but undeniable.
A tension forming.
Not just between enemies.
But something more complicated.
Something dangerous in a completely different way.
Aang glanced between them⌠then back at Miralyn.
And for the first time since landingâ he wasnât just wondering what she was. He was wondering where he stood.
And why it suddenly felt like it mattered.
â
The air didnât relax.
Even after the fight⌠even after the silence⌠even with no one attackingâsomething still lingered between them. Thick. Unspoken.
No one moved first.
Not Aang.
Not Zuko.
Not even Miralyn.
It was Sokka, of course, who cracked.
âOkay,â he said, gesturing vaguely at⌠everything. âI think weâre all thinking it, so Iâm just gonna say itâwhat was that?â
Miralynâs gaze shifted to him slowly.
Not annoyed.
Not amused.
Just⌠measuring.
âA failed attempt,â she said.
Sokka blinked. âRight. Obviously. I meant the other thing. The⌠stopping-all-the-elements-mid-air-like-the-world-glitched thing.â
A pause.
Miralyn tilted her head slightly, as if deciding how much to say.
âThey tried to bend,â she said simply.
Toph frowned. âYeah. And then they⌠didnât.â
âThey couldnât,â Miralyn corrected.
That landed heavier.
Katara stepped forward just a bit. âHow?â she asked, voice steady but cautious. âEven the most skilled benders canât just⌠shut other people down like that.â
Aangâs eyes stayed fixed on Miralyn. âNot even the Avatar.â
Miralyn looked at him again.
That same pause.
Like she was seeing something layered beneath him.
âYou ask the elements for permission,â she said.
Aangâs brow furrowed slightly. ââŚWhat?â
âYou move with them. Guide them. Borrow their strength.â Her voice remained calm, almost distant. âThatâs bending.â
A faint shift in the wind curled around her, subtle but deliberate.
âI donât.â
Silence.
Zukoâs eyes narrowed. âThen what do you do?â
For the first timeâ Miralynâs expression changed.
Not into a smile.
But something close to certainty.
âI donât bend the elements,â she said.
âI decide what they are allowed to do.â
The words settled like weight.
Sokka let out a quiet, disbelieving laugh. âOkay, yeah, no, thatâs worse.â
Toph took a step forward, her bare foot pressing into the earth.
âI need to feel this,â she muttered.
Miralyn didnât stop her.
Toph slammed her heel downâ
Earth surged upward, a sharp column aimed straight for Miralyn.
It never reached her.
Not because it broke.
Not because it missed.
It simply⌠stopped.
Hovering inches away.
Toph froze.
Her connection to the earthânormally so clear, so constantâfelt⌠interrupted.
Like someone else had picked up the line.
ââŚThatâs not possible,â Toph said under her breath.
Miralyn didnât look at the stone.
She looked at Toph.
âIt is when the earth listens to me first.â
With a slight shift of her fingersâ the column lowered.
Not dropped.
Lowered.
Like it was obeying.
Toph stepped back, something like disbelief flickering across her face. âYou didnât just block me,â she said. âYou⌠overrode me.â
Miralyn said nothing.
Katara moved next.
Water flowed from her skin in a smooth, controlled ribbonâsharp, precise.
It curved toward Miralynâ
Then froze.
Suspended.
Kataraâs eyes widened slightly as she tried to pull it back.
It didnât respond.
ââŚI canât feel it,â she said quietly.
Miralynâs gaze flicked briefly to the waterâthen back to Katara.
âYouâre reaching for it,â she said.
Another small movement of her handâ
The water shifted⌠then returned to Kataraâs control.
Katara pulled it back instantly, the liquid snapping into place at her side.
Aang stepped forward now.
Slowly.
âYou can do that to⌠all of them?â he asked.
Miralyn didnât hesitate.
âYes.â
Zukoâs jaw tightened. âFire too?â
She looked at him.
This time, there was something sharper in her gaze.
âTry.â
Zuko didnât need to be told twice.
Fire burst from his handsâcontrolled, precise, fast.

Is Agni even an actual spirit in the Avatar world? I donât remember- anyway I have a headcanon reading Agni.
Before the 100 year war Agni was generally referred gender neutral. They/them pronouns and everything. This was simply because no one knew if Agni had preferred pronouns.
Once Sozin became Fire Lord he claimed to have talked to Agni and justified the war with this in the beginning. He claimed Agni was a man of war and greatness.
The sun warriors see Agni as a goddess of love, passion and prosperity. Sheâs also referred to as a woman and seen as very powerful for obvious reasons.
Zuko starts to refer to Agni with she/her and as a woman after meeting the sun warriors. This catches on very quickly in the fire nation and soon enough the fire nation and the rest of the world see Agni for what she truly is.
When Zuko is in his 20s he sees Agni in a dream and she thanks him and promises him the greatest gift. A few days later he and Sokka find Izumi.
Me and my friends were talking about how Zuko and Mai are just the worst canon relationship in AtLA, and decided that Zuko would find his true passion with Sokka.
I haven't seen the movie, so this happens at some unspecified time at an unspecified place.
