*　WHAT　YOU　NEED,　TWIN　?

she heard him arrive. heard the car pulling up outside, the headlights sweeping through the curtains of their bedroom before disappearing again. at first, she simply rolled onto her side, turning away from the window and away from whatever future she'd imagined for the two of them. at this point, it all felt uncertain. it wasn't something they'd ever really talked about. not properly. she knew from interviews he'd done over the years that children weren't in the cards for him. at least not yet. and yet here they were. the moment the front door opened, rodney was on alert, jumping off the bed and rushing out of the room. it only took a few seconds before madelyn followed. reaching for the positive tests she'd left on the bedside table, she wrapped her fingers around them before pushing herself to her feet. she could hear him greeting rodney in a hushed voice as she stepped into the hallway and made her way to the staircase, her arms folded tightly across her chest as she looked down at him. she'd replayed this moment in her head over and over again, trying to figure out how she was supposed to tell him. every version had ended differently, but they all left her with the same feeling. fear. once their eyes met through the dim light, she started making her way downstairs, one step at a time. she didn't say anything. didn't answer his greeting. she simply kept walking until she reached the second to last step, leaving them almost eye to eye. leaning forward, she rested her forehead against his, her eyes falling shut as she gently placed the pregnancy tests into his hand. "..i'm so sorry." the words barely rose above a whisper against his lips. she couldn't bring herself to look at him. she wasn't sure she could handle whatever expression she'd find.

after a few moments of silence, he looked up to meet her gaze. he could tell something was wrong by the way silence thickened the air between them and by the way she slowly made her way down the stairs. he noticed something in her hand, but without his glasses he couldn’t tell what it was. standing up to meet her at the bottom of the stairs, he was about to grab her hands and ask what was wrong, but the sudden feeling of cold plastic rested in his palm. namjoon was confused, but he didn’t look just yet. her words, her apology only now registering in his brain as he looked down at what he was holding. he was taken aback, he knew what two pink lines meant, he wasn’t stupid by any means. “i…” for once he struggled to speak english, his brain finding it difficult to translate korean to english. he exhaled deeply and swallowed hard as he took a moment to collect himself. namjoon needed to be strong for the both of them, he knew that, no matter how terrified he actually was. pressing his forehead against hers once more he placed the pregnancy tests on the railing of the stairs carefully, taking his two free hands to now cup her cheeks. the man chuckled softly, and although it sounded nervous and unsure, he had meant everything he was about to say next. “the fuck you sorry for?” cause in reality, it took both of them to produce a positive pregnancy test. she didn't have to be sorry. “listen, i know this was unexpected, to say the least… but we’re going to figure it out.” of course it was easy for him to say in the moment despite being unsure, he knew he needed to support her as his hands moved from her cheeks and down to her stomach. although, it was true, he knew that deep down inside that they would figure it out. namjoon didn’t know if he was imagining the bump he was feeling, but he couldn’t help but smile like a maniac. his hands tracing the underside of her growing belly, amazed at what they were able to create. “rodney is going to have a little brother or sister…”

it was half past midnight when he had arrived, his footsteps careful and calculated as to not wake up either madelyn or rodney. he opened the door as quiet as he could, setting his bag down as his shoulders jerked upwards and his teeth clenched at the loud sound of rodney's bark. "shhhhh," he held his pointer finger up to his mouth as he started to walk towards the stairs that rodney was trotting down. although, his bark had ceased the second he had saw namjoon. "hi buddy!" he immediately kneeled down, taking the cavapoo into his arms as he was nearly knocked over by the large dog. he buried his face in his fur as he patted the dogs sides hugging him as he did so. namjoon heard steps, which he assumed were madelyn's, as his gaze met with the top of the staircase. "hi baby, sorry... i tried not to wake you up."
