Okay this might be a hot take but I’m starting to notice this trend of people expecting top-notch acting in all kdramas regardless of the genre and I can’t help but be a bit confused by that. Often times, rom-com dramas are meant to be over-the-top, wacky, corny, and cliche. Like, these dramas are written like telenovelas and if you are not expecting oscar worthy acting from novelas then why would you expect it from a romcom kdrama? I feel like a lot of people have forgotten that kdramas are literally korean novelas, and if you want the best acting you really need to watch other genres(crime, horror, thriller, melodramas, etc etc etc, all exist for a reason). Having good acting is a plus, don’t get me wrong, and you can want good acting in a romcom, but good acting has never been the most common in romcoms, nor are they expected, especially when the writing tends to not be the best either.
