Police say the one-year-old child was found unresponsive early Saturday morning at a home on 5th Avenue near 13th Street in New Westminster.
First, let's define IHIT: The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is the largest homicide unit in Canada, responsible for investigating homicides, suspicious deaths, and high-risk missing persons where foul play is suspected.
I'm glad I read that because before I thought IHIT only dealt with gang related violence. I think they have a very complicated job ahead of them. But we need to collaborate instead of argue/fight. Gang members are going to always hate cops. Cops are going to arrest gang members. It's a story as old as time. But how does a one year old kid dying come into that story?
I'll tell you - GREED. People want more money, more power, more status, to close more cases, and during all of that, a one year old dies. They didn't decide what family to be born into. Maybe this death had nothing to do with gang violence.
But because I'm advocating for change, I am calling on the Vancouver community to demand change. I don't kno the answers. But let's start working on it.
