Chapter 2: terribly
The sun shined bright through your window, the birds chirped and of course, your alarm setted off. You got up in an instant, stretching and yawning as you did so.
Yesterday wasnt much work, you just got to meet your new boss, followed him around the facility and went home. Sounds easy in theory, but the practice of having to withstand his out of context comments was much worse. But what can you do, after all, you needed the money. You even had to move to Spain just to have your new work place near.
You once again walked through that door, but this time, he wasn't waiting. You felt relieved for an instant, even though that meant now you had to find him. You walked through the extense hallways, the light extending bright as you carefully examined each room to try and finding him.
"Lavinho?" you went yelling around, slowly losing your composed temper. Where would he even go? This was only your second day of work and you already were getting pissed off. The hallways seemed to stretch with every step you took in an annoying motion, a perfect nightmare fuel.
Oh wait, there he is.
You quickly rushed to the fields, where he was unbothered, practising his dribble with incredible precision, completely hypnotized in his own world. You couldn't find even the right words to nag him for this trouble. At least, the panic left your body.
"Oh there you are, ____" he nonchalanty said, not even stopping his movements to look at you properly. Your blood boiled.
"Lavinho, I would be glad if you could wait for me before engaging on anything like this" you got serious real quick, narrowing ur eyes trying to not throw a passive aggressive comment. Lavinho just winked, and for some reason you expected him to do something like so.
"Ah come on! Don't you wanna look at my awesome moves?" He grinned, while still controlling the ball with a naturality that made him look like a butterfly. It's like he was mocking you and showing off.
"Alright, alright I got it." Lavinho replied quickly, throwing the ball away with a last kick as he got closer to you. "you look like you never have fun huh, ___?" he continued, watching how your expression turned darker in an instant. His shitty teasing never stopped. A constant trial.
"That isn't the matter" you simply stated, trying to regain your composture when a sudden, warm grip welcomed ur arms. You stiffened even harder.
"Lavinho what are you?! -"ย he quickly shutted you, and placed one of his hands on ur arm and another on your waist, in a stance that was incredibly uncomfortable.
"Shhh, see how stiff are you? It's like you need to dance, to relax yourself" What was this man talking about?! You tried to pull away, or more like thought before he started moving you alongside him, what looked like was a dance. It was clearly his style, moving a lot and spinning you around like nothing. The birds were still chirping outside, a clear reminder of how soon it was for a scheme like this.
"Stop this already! What are you even doing?" You scoffed, but he only kept on focusing on moving and singing something on portguese. He seemed to tap his foot to the dance, marking a beat that was rather entrancing. Whether you understood or not what he was singing was irrelevant, the mere scene was making you lose it.
"I knew you'd love and feel relieved with this" With those unpleasing words you drew the line and stepped on his foot with a punishing strength, pulling you away.
"That was inappropiate, Lavinho." Your heart still raced from the sudden movement and you still felt loose, that dizzy feeling from being spinned around lingering around you. He really managed to break your composture, and he just laughed it off like nothing, with a grin from ear to ear.
"Well anyway, we don't have much time to be joking around. We got newbies coming today, so it will be your first actual work day."ย Talking about actual work and not just hearing jokes felt like fresh air for you, thats what you actually came for. The money, the work, the professionality... That seemed way better than dancing around with a brazilian man you barely knew. It seemed familiar.
"At what time?" you asked, stepping further from him just in case.
"Oh, like right now" Your eyes twitched, he decided to tell that just now? He risked being seen dancing with his assistant by his new apprentices?
"Im hearing steps from here, so give me a moment to come and greet them."ย he uttered quickly and began to ran without previous warning.
"Wait! I should be with you in most cases!" you tried to shout as he left, but when you realized it he was gone just like that. Unbelivable.
You stayed rigid on that giant field, mantaining a straight stance while waiting. Your mind was already shaken from first looking for him and then being treated like some sort of dance doll for now this to be the case. You looked up and down, from the super high ceiling to the artificial grass that you step on, it all looked like your new jail cell.
You heard his cocky voice again ecoing through the field.
"We will practice here. " You looked at the apprentices that entered the room, one after another, getting closer to you with Lavinho. They all looked like foreigners, thats for sure.
"And this is my assistant ___, she wont be doing much" He continued his speech, now playing a hand on ur back with a smug smile. You can't avoid but to wonder why he would do that if you clearly showed your discomfort with sudden touch before. All of the apprentices looked at you, up and down, like if a examination exam it was, whispers filling the space in a way that even you could notice from afar.
"My pleasure" You replied, simple and direct, deapise still being a bit shaken from before.
From afar you watched lavinho "teach" every newbie, analizing everything he did because after all, being prepared is better than not. Those distinctive barรงa shirts could catch any attention quickly, followed with his careless and free moves that sometimes youd swore they ressemble a butterfly. Again. Always that simbology of his.
"No no, you're too stiff. Move more freely, this is your own dance." He would repeat with such a serious tone even the phrase sounded serious. Your eyes seemed to roam over him sometimes, maybe it's curiosity and thats it, but something from him seems more pulling than just his flashy looks...
You shake that thought off. No, no. "I must not think in any way that isn't proffesional." However he had other plans. He specifically told you to stay near him. The way he casually passed over you while still supposely teaching to just give you a smile, and sometimes even wave at you, seemed unreasonable. Even the newbies often gave dirty looks everytime he pulled up with that embarrassing 'kindness'. Why he would be so friendly with his newly met assistant?
"Lavinho... You don't need to check on me." You finally spitted out, expecting his usual cocky behaviour.
"I know, ____. But you gotta lighten up, if everyone here sees how stiff you are they might take on that too." He shouted, like if he was announcing something big and amazing. Really, does he know what shame is?
"Thats-" You tried to say, before getting quickly silenced by his words over yours, turning his back on you once again. You could feel how awkard this was for everyone here, but he seemed unbothered, like if he had no burdens on his shoulders whatsoever.
"Do you think that's his girlfriend?" You instantly recoiled at the hearing of that. You didn't even know who said it, or why, but youre certain you heard that right. You looked to Lavinho and him at you, ur lips parting to absolutely deny that, but getting interupted. He shaked his head, like if silentely telling you to hold it, why? You hated this. Every word cut off, felt like you shrinked, an unbeareable pression you never liked.
And even knowing how ur expression darkened, he still continued talking, with no bother. It's like nothing matters to this guy except football and the obssesion of being free and careless. You almost wished to feel that nonchalant.
The day finally finished, and you felt exhausted, your bones begging for a rest. He insisted of having you near always, and he is not precisely the kind to be still most of the times. All of that while trying to make sure everything went smoothly and enduring what seemed now to be the rumour; you and Lavinho were dating. It's only been 1 day you spent there, and you were already accusated of that shitty stuff, only because he wouldnt deny any of it. How could it even happen? The day went so fast, it all seemed to knot into the worst possible case scenario.
To be continued...
