@killertrees: the director pushed me out of a tree - and yelled yeet!!

“Do a flip!!” Jared yelled from down below as he took a sip from the Starbucks he had bought beforehand. “Bitch ain’t gunna survive.” he mumbled to himself as he readied his cellphone to take a video. He wouldn’t be able to share it on twitter, but it’d give him and Connor something to laugh at later.

Connor rolled her eyes underneath the mask and let out a chuckle when she heard Jared’s yell. She was right behind Luna and held onto a branch behind them once the two of them were at the perfect height, or at least she thought it was. A smile grew as Connor got ready to push them out of the tree, god she never thought she would have a moment and she wanted to savor the moment. “I’m gonna count to three alright. One- this bitch empty YEET!”  She roughly kicked them out of the tree, and watched for a moment as Luna fell to the ground below before booking it back down the tree.

“Jared is trying his best alright, I mean he made it here so that’s a big accomplishment on its own for him.” Despite Connor trying to sell Jared as more useful than he was being right now, she knew he probably wasn’t going to be much help when Luna was pushed. “Uhhh, I looked it up on google and I think that going almost to the top should be good enough.” Her voice was muffled behind the mask, and once the other was onto the next branch Connor managed to shimmy herself up to the first one to follow after. 

“Well, his best isn’t very good, alright?” she said, looking over at the other again and sighing. She was definitely going to break a bone if he was her help. It was easy to keep climbing when they reminded themselves to simply take it a branch at a time and soon enough, they were at the top with the whole campus in view. “Okay, push me!” she whispered into the darkness, ready to let out a terrified scream when the inevitable happened.

“I never thought I’d say this but same. I need to go into hibernation or something.” Connor ran her hands over her face and let out another distressed noise. “Guess I’ll just have to go mooch off of Jared again. And here I thought you’d be helpful for once. Have you even been trying to get people to donate lately? We’re so dry and it feel like I’m the only one pulling most of the weight here.”

“A nice, light coma would be good right about now,” she agreed. “Have fun with that, I on the other hand have class. And yes, I’m like five seconds away from getting Atropa Burr to sign a cheque and everyone knows that she doesn’t sign cheques for less than ten grand.”

“Well you better start accepting it quicker. You won’t die don’t be dramatic, Jared’ll break your fall.” She motioned over to Jared, who was standing off to the side picking his ass. Connor nodded and reached into her backpack where she kept a replica mask, and set it onto her face before pushing Luna towards the first branch of the tree. “Here I saw some cheerleaders do this once. Just step on my hands and I’ll give you a boost up.” It took a moment to figure out, but Connor managed to  link her hands together to make a step to easily use.

“Yeah because I trust Jared,” she sighed, looking over at the aforementioned male who was currently picking idly at his wedgie. The mask firmly in place, Luna sighed and nodded, “Let’s do this then,” she said, reminding herself of the concept of needing to pay rent and eat. Using Connor’s linked hands was simply enough and then she was climbing. “How high am I going?” she asked.

“We have actually seen a bunch of it through the years, darling. We will get back to the highlands one day though.. I promise.” Watching as she yawned, he moved to lean back, pulling her with him so they could lay down. “The first I remember? We were Roman. I was an entertainer to the emperors. Your father wanted you to marry a politician like himself but he lost your hand in a gambling match. You bore us six beautiful sons.” 

“Have we ever lived in Australia? Their accents are so adorable, and I’ve heard that they have penguins there!” She relaxed into him, feeling content and safe with him close by. “Well they would be beautiful if they were related to you. Did we ever have more than six kids?”

“Get off my ass I don’t at least drink until after five o’clock and it’s only two.” Connor frowned as she tried to find anything on Luna and let out a pathetic groan when she found nothing and was caught in the act. “C’mon I need something! I don’t have any on me right now since I gave all of it to my dealer last night. Can you like, at least go get a burger with me I’m starving and don’t have the cash. I’ll pay you back later swearsies.”

“Is it really only two? I want to go to bed,” she groaned, thinking of all the blankets that she was currently missing out on. “That is a sad tale, but I don’t have time to grab food and besides I only have sixty-nine cents in my bank account!” She said starting to back away from her and placing a hand on her hip.

“Luna, it’s not even that high you’ll be fine. We just need you to get a couple of scratches and bruises on you to make it believable since we’re running low on cash for the project.” Connor finished the joint she had in her hand and tossed it by the roots of the tree the three of them were standing under, an impatient frown painting her features as time was stalled. She had made sure this was the tallest tree on campus, and wasn’t about to go through all this effort for Luna to wuss out. “I’m going up there with you so you won’t be alone okay?”

“Okay, well it’s not exactly easy to just accept that I’m going to fall from a tree. And besides, what if I die?” She said, crossing her arms in front of her - before taking a deep breath and reminding herself that she had bills to pay and no other way to do it. “Okay, did you bring the fox mask so that if anyone sees anything, they’ll really believe it’s the director?” 

“We lived in the Scottish Highlands until we were forced from our home for more profitable sheep farming. We moved to Glasgow with our twin daughters and I got a job in a linen manufacturing plant.” Smiling, he closed his eyes softly. “We were happy but you always missed the highlands.”

“That’s so sweet, can we go to the highlands one day? I wanna see the whole world with you,” she said, voice soft as she held in the tired yawn that was threatening to escape. “What was our first life like?”

“Oh, fuck you!” Caleb yelled out towards his sister Sudney. She had made another crack towards his tastes in certain things. He turned with a huff, bumping right into someone else. “Excuse me,” he said to the other, his Australian accent getting thicker with his annoyance. “I’m sorry, didn’t mean to.” 

She could have sworn that she saw that cop out the corner of her eye, and given that she had fallen asleep in a house that was technically a crime scene, she knew that she could get arrested. “Oh I’m so sorry,” she fervently apologized. “Did you want to maybe sign my cast?”

“Well just ask me about anything you want to know and I can tell you most of it. Besides the lives ive forced myself to forget because you were taken too soon.” He commented softly, resting his head on her shoulder.

“Where did we live in the 1750s? I’ve always wondered what those years were like,” she asked, running her hands through the mop of hair on Kai’s head.

“Yea I’m fine I’m fine. I didn’t drink a single drop of anything Luna you wanna check if my breath smells like an alcoholic on happy hour?” She swatted their hand away and wrapped her lanky arms around them. “Just let me give you a fuckin’ hug, is that to much to ask?” Of course Connor’s intentions weren’t in the right place though, and she tried to discreetly search through Luna’s pockets for money. 

“You didn’t drink anything? That sounds about as fake as it can get,” she said, face scrunching up in true confusion. And when they noticed the other’s hands roaming, it all made sense. “Really Connor? I’m even broker than you are, get your own money,” she groaned, swatting away her hands and breaking free of the hug.
