It had been a split second decision, made with the instinct he'd always had - to protect those in danger. The last startling strike from the demon they'd cut down, a posthumous reaction, had been intended for the older brother who'd beheaded the creature, but it was the younger who'd taken the hit - desperate role-reversal from the attack that had put the twins on this path in the first place.

Muichiro had always wished to protect Yuichiro.

A large barbed stinger was embedded in the back of Muichiro's shoulder as he fell against his brother, venom injected into his blood stream and spreading - his shoulder already swelling. Muichiro hissed in pain and focused on his breathing, using a well known technique to slow to spread of the venom.

He heard Yuichiro's voice telling that he'd be okay, to keep his eyes on him, and Muichiro reached to grab onto his brother's sleeve, much like he used to do when they were little, long before their parents died, when they were the closest.

He'd gotten too focused again, his mind on the fight and not on himself, and he'd not noticed until now that he'd been injured at all. With the demon vanquished, he should've gone back to the mansion to report directly to the Master, but he'd found the home of the former Flame Hashira to be closer. Muichiro had only just announced himself to Senjuro with the other boy noted his bleeding.

Muichiro lifted his injured left arm, seeing a deep gash running across his arm, bleeding heavily enough that blood had run down to stain his hand. Slow drops of blood trailed behind him, revealing the path he'd taken there.

"Oh. It's fine." It wasn't fine - the wound would need cleaning, stitching. Muichiro's voice was too calm for someone bleeding like he was. "No big deal - though could I ask for some tea?"
