Creating Miniature Polymer Worlds with @kleineknetwelt
To discover more photos of fanciful sceneries, follow @kleineknetwelt on Instagram.
“I mainly work with dental tweezers, needles, wooden sticks and a scalpel,” says Vera Märker (@kleineknetwelt) of Linsenhofen, Germany. But ultimately, she can turn even kitchen utensils such as cookie cutters or a pasta machine into tools to create imaginative worlds made of polymer clay. A trained mechanical engineer, Vera is inspired by everyday situations and people around her. “You have to look to see,” she points out.
The reason for her miniature medium has practical roots: “As a teenager I just didn’t have the money to buy a lot of stuff, so I had to work small. This uses considerably less material.” Vera admits that implementing a theme into such a small space is a challenge, but adds, “Each time a piece turns out well, it gives me a good feeling.”
Creating Cloud Scenarios with @marcus1spannier
For more photos of creative cloud scenarios, follow @marcus1spannier on Instagram and browse the hashtag #usetheclouds.
“My parents kept asking me why I always gaze up into the sky and what do I see there,” recalls Markus Einspannier (@marcus1spannier). The auto body painter from Heinsberg, Germany, developed a passion for clouds as a little kid, and when his parents gave him a Polaroid camera for his 13th birthday, he began experimenting immediately. “I started holding up different items towards the sky. Or I would jump in the air until the photograph created the illusion of me standing on the cloud.”
Today, Markus is lovingly referred to by his friends as “Wolkenonkel” (“Cloud Uncle”) and channels the innocence and endless imagination of a child’s view on the world. As he’s come to realize, “Everything is possible—and nothing is unthinkable.”

A New Cast of Characters for Toronto’s Neighborhood Watch Signs
To see more of Andrew’s creative Neighborhood Watch modifications, follow @dcmism on Instagram.
Where some may have seen only an old sign faded after years of sun exposure, Toronto artist Andrew Lamb (@dcmism) saw an opportunity. Since 2012, Andrew has treated his hometown’s weathered Neighborhood Watch signs as a blank canvas, adorning them with whimsical figures from pop culture.
"My work tends to deal with altering urban infrastructure in a playful manner," explains Andrew. In this case, it’s about repurposing municipal infrastructure to "invoke nostalgic happy memories" with the help of characters as diverse as Zelda, Bruce Lee and the Planeteers.
What are the keys to success when modifying a sign? “Use a laser printer, not an inkjet,” says Andrew, “and don’t fall off your ladder.”
