Wu, with tiny little five year old Morro, slowly walks into the room where Misako is resting and Garmadon is holding tiny baby Lloyd. Looking at his small nephews face, Garmadon crouches down and introduces baby Lloyd to Morro, explaining how this is his cousin.

Leaning forward, with Wu’s hand on his back, Morro peaks at Lloyd’s face. With only a little hesitation, he pulls the blankets covering him a tad down, only for this to wake baby Lloyd up. With bright green eyes blinking up at him, all Morro says is,

“Sensei, I thought you said I would be the Green Ninja :(?”

Cue confused looks from both Garmadon and Wu. “Dear child, whatever do you mean?” Wu questions.

And all Morro does is point at Lloyd’s tiny face as if that explains anything. And, well, it does. No normal baby has bright green, glowing eyes.

So whilst Wu and Garmadon begin staring at each other in horror, and Misako begins waking up, Morro huffs, leans over, and just says

Decided to rewatch Kamisama Kiss and remembered how much I love this mid-2000s shojo anime style. The wide eyes, the bubble, dreamy effect. I miss anime not trying to look so realistic.

Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate a beautifully animated work that goes into some of the shows now with the backgrounds and character designs. However, there’s something to these anime being almost cartoonish at times that are what makes them so nostalgic and enjoyable.

Not to mention the line style. Her and Tomoe’s kiss actually looks better because there’s no awkwardly drawn lips or attempt at making them look too “human”. They look like characters from a story, which they should. Nanami’s mouth as she talks to the side being almost rendered on her cheek actually works and is better than some animation today that tries to perfectly imitate human facial features.
