1. Don’t worry about what other people think. Wear the dress. Eat the cake. Dye your hair. And do all of it for you, not for anybody else.
2. Pay attention in school! You hate it right now, and you may hate everybody there, and I know you’re struggling with being a teenager and the last thing you want to do is stupid school work; but do it. Trust me.
3. Once a cheater, always a cheater. You try and see the good in everybody, so you’ll convince yourself that people like this can change. They can’t. And they don’t deserve you so walk away. I know you’re debating it right now with “but he said he was sorry, he really can change!” He won’t. I promise. And that’s not your fault, that’s a problem he has deep within himself.
4. Love yourself. You will never be able to accept love from someone else, until you truly learn to love yourself. Embrace your weirdness, your flaws, and anything that makes you stand out. That makes you, you.
5. Be a good person. It doesn’t take religion to have morals. Be kind, and always treat people as you want to be treated. Which brings me to number 6.
6. Karma is a bitch, and she is real. What goes around, comes around. Always.
7. Everybody is somebody. And nobody is a nobody. Your waiter, your janitor, and your garbage truck driver and just as important and worthy of your respect as business men, politicians, and the wealthy elite are. Don’t get so caught up in doing things and making moves that you catch yourself treating people as less than you. No matter how important you are, you are never too important to be kind.
8. Call your dad. Just tell him you love him. I know he talks a lot and it’s easy to get impatient and annoyed. But just listen, and have some conversation with him because he won’t be there forever.
9. Don’t rush to grow up. You think your twenties are a great time in your life, but it really isn’t. It’s full of stress, uncertainty, perpetual anxiety, and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of bills. Enjoy being a child.
10. Apologize and/or forgive. Life is too short to be angry all the time. Let things go, if not for their sake, then for your own.
