“Do you remember ?” Gustave tentatively asked. “Your… last moment ?” He fixed the table while saying this, incapable of looking back at them.   There’s a silence, a standstill. They were hearing the chatter around them, the chairs scraping the floor, the mechanical coffee machine brewing. Gustave’s breath shortened, “Merde, why did I say that, putain!” he thought. The panic was rising. He clenched his fist, nails digging in his skin. A panic attack in public was the worst that could happen now. He reminded himself he was safe, in Lumière, among friends. Friends who remained silent.  “I do,” Alan finally said.
